Women’s Soccer Defeats Penn 4-0 at Home

"I'm really proud of the group today," said Messing Family Head Coach Kia McNeill. "After a tough result last weekend, this was exactly the kind of response we were looking for. The team was dialed in from the first whistle to the last, which was great to put together a 90 minute performance. We executed the game plan really well, especially in terms of our defensive shape and areas to exploit in the attack. If we can maintain this standard moving forward, we're going to put ourselves in a very good position."
The Bears were aggressive from the start, recording nine shots in the first 24 minutes. In the 25th minute, junior forward Corine Gregory scored her third goal of the season. It was a tic-tac-toe finish as Kyra Treanor took a feed from Jael-Marie Guy and dished it to Gregory for the finish.
The Bears outshot the Quakers 13-2 in the first half, as they took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, Brown continued to press, as Jael-Marie Guy pick pocketed the opposing goalkeeper. She turned toward the middle and blasted a shot into the empty net to make it 2-0.
Shortly thereafter, junior midfielder Audrey Lam drew a foul in the 18 yard box. Joy Okonye stepped up to take the penalty kick attempt and buried it into the top right corner. Her sixth goal of the season ties Naya Cardoza for the team lead.
Just before the end of the game, Angelina Vargas took a pass from Ella Weil and buried it past Penn's goalkeeper to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Bears took the win, 4-0, and improved their Ivy League record to 2-1-0. They outshot the Quakers 20-5, including 10 on goal.
The Bears will host Dartmouth next Saturday, October 11, for Alumni Day. Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. following the men's soccer game against Penn.
