Men's Hockey Rolls Past Merrimack for Third Straight Win
1/21/2025 9:56:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Brown Bears (7-9-2, 4-7-1 ECAC) tallied three third period goals to win its third game in five days with a 5-1 road win over the Merrimack Warriors (9-13-1, 5-7-1 HEA) Tuesday night at Lawler Rink.
"It was a great effort; we got better as the game wore on and it was a great job by Cataldo, Bauchiero, and Hartman; they played the right way, they got pucks deep and got after Merrimack," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "They played simple but really effective hockey.
"I really like the direction we're trending in and there's a lot of belief in the locker room. From my end, our goal is to continue to get better every game we play.
"Coming into a Hockey East barn against a team that has recently beat Boston College, UMass, and Dartmouth earlier in the year, that's a big road win for us. We played the right way and gave ourselves an opportunity. I'm very proud of the guys."
Ty Daneault gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead 11:55 into the first period on Merrimack's second power play opportunity of the period. Seamus Powell and Caden Cranston picked up the assists on Daneault's sixth goal of the season.
Max Scott tallied his 11th of the season with less than a minute remaining in the first on the power play. The captain finished a feed from Brian Nicholas to push his goal streak to three games. Ryan St. Louis added the secondary assist on the goal.
Dean Bauchiero broke the deadlock 8:18 into the middle frame with his second goal of the season. Tanner Hartman collected a pass from Mike Cataldo below the goal line and found Bauchiero on the back door to beat Merrimack goaltender Nils Wallstrom (25 saves).
Cataldo tallied his first goal of the season 5:28 into the third to extend Brown's lead to 3-1. The sophomore got to the front of the net and redirected Alex Pineau's point shot to beat Wallstrom. Ethan Mistry added the secondary assist on the goal.
St. Louis added a goal later in the period to push the score to 4-1, tipping a point shot from Tony Andreozzi for his third goal of the season. Nick Traggio picked up the secondary assist on the goal.
Bauchiero sealed the victory with an empty net goal with 2:36 remaining. The junior collected a pass from Scott and rifled a shot the length of the ice to the unguarded net.
Lawton Zacher was strong from the start and finished the night with 20 saves.
