Men's Hockey Hosts Union, RPI in Weekend Series

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (4-4-2, 2-3-1 ECAC) return to conference play to host the Union Garnet Chargers (9-7-1, 3-3-0 ECAC) on Friday before taking on the Rensselaer Engineers (6-9-2, 1-5-0 ECAC) on Saturday.
Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. with Saturday's puck drop set for 5 p.m. Both games will stream on ESPN+ in the United States and on Stretch Internet internationally.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters the weekend with a 4-4-2 overall record and 2-3-1 ECAC mark. The Bears are 4-1-2 over the last seven games and most recently took a 3-0 win over LIU.
- Brown's offense averages 2.2 goals per game to rank tenth in the ECAC. Max Scott leads the Bears with five goals and Brian Nicholas leads the team with seven assists and 11 points.
- Brown's power play clicks at 16% (4-25) to rank ninth in the ECAC.
- Defensively, Brown leads the conference and ranks seventh nationally with 2.0 goals against per game. Goaltender Lawton Zacher holds a .945 save percentage and 1.72 goals against average in eight starts.
- Bruno's penalty kill ranks fourth in the ECAC and 19th nationally at 83.9% (26-31).
- Union enters the weekend with a 9-7-1 overall record and 3-3-0 ECAC mark.
- The Garnet Chargers lost the last four games before the break, including conference games against Princeton and Quinnipiac.
- Union's offense averages 3.2 goals per game to rank second in the conference and 12th nationally.
- Ben Muthersbaugh leads the team with eight goals and 18 points and five other Union skaters have at least five goals.
- Nate Hanley and Colby MacArthur are tied for the team lead with 11 assists apiece.
- Union's power play ranks fifth in the conference and 23rd nationally at 21.2% (14-66). Muthersbaugh has four power play goals to lead the team.
- Defensively, Union allows 3.0 goals per game to rank ninth in the ECAC and 42nd nationally.
- Kyle Chauvette has started all 17 games and holds a 2.87 goals against average and .893 save percentage.
- The penalty kill clicks at 74.5% (41-55) to rank ninth in the ECAC and 55th nationally.
- Friday marks the 69th meeting between Brown and Union dating back to 1989. Brown holds the series edge, 28-25-15, along with a 13-9-10 record at home.
- Both teams are 4-4-2 in the last 10 games.
- RPI enters the weekend with a 6-9-2 overall record and 1-5-0 ECAC mark. The Engineers returned from the break with a 7-4 home loss against New Hampshire.
- Rensselaer scores 3.1 goals per game to rank fifth in the ECAC and 21st nationally.
- Five skaters have five goals to lead the team in scoring. Tyler Hotson leads the team with 10 assists and 15 points with Will Gilson following closely with nine assists and 14 points.
- The power play ranks sixth in the conference and 29th nationally at 19.2% (10-52).
- Defensively, RPI ranks last in the conference and 63rd nationally with 3.8 goals against per game.
- Noah Giesbrecht holds a 3.57 goals against average and .891 save percentage in 12 starts. Jack Watson has a 3.90 goals against and .898 save percentage in six starts.
- RPI's penalty kill ranks 11th in the conference and 62nd nationally at 69.9% (51-73).
- Saturday is the 111th meeting between the Bears and Engineers dating back to 1951. RPI holds the series lead, 67-35-8.
- The Bears are 19-25-4 all-time at home against Rensselaer.
- Both teams are 5-5-0 in the last 10 meetings with Brown holding a 10-9-1 record over the last 20 meetings.
- The Bears returned from the break to take a 3-0 home win over the LIU Sharks behind a 43-save shutout from Lawton Zacher.

- Ryan Shostak added the empty-netter to seal the win.
- Zacher picked up ECAC Goalie of the Week honors for the second time this season following his shutout over the Sharks.
- The 43 saves marked a career-high for the Buffalo, New York native.
- Zacher only improved his already stellar numbers heading into the new year.
- His .945 save percentage ranks second in the NCAA, trailing Minnesota State's Alex Tracy (.945) by a narrow margin.
- Zacher's 1.72 goals against average ranks second in the ECAC and seventh in the NCAA. Princeton's Arthur Smith (1.67) ranks fifth in the nation.
- Zacher is also tied for seventh in the NCAA with two shutouts.
- Ryan St. Louis returned to the lineup and has recorded consecutive multi-point games.
- The junior tallied two assists against Northeastern (Dec. 7) and added a goal and assist in the win over LIU (Dec. 29).
