HANOVER, N.H. – The (RV) Dartmouth Big Green (8-6-2, 5-3-1 ECAC) erased a one-goal lead in the third period to take a 5-2 home win over the Brown Bears (4-9-2, 2-7-1 ECAC) Saturday night at Thompson Arena.
"We played well in spurts, but we need to learn how to win and it's not easy to do that," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "We were going pretty good in stretches and this last week has not been kind to us. Some of it is really good opposition but a lot of it is our own doing.
"We need to get back to work on Monday and get a full week of practice in and improve. We need to get back to what has made us successful in stretches in the first half. We'll figure it out, but at home next weekend we need to focus on being the best version on Brown Hockey."
The Big Green took the early lead 1:51 into the first as Luke Haymes recorded his first goal of the season off an assist from Nikita Nikora.
Brendan Clark evened the game with 2:22 remaining in the first with a great individual effort. The senior forced a Dartmouth offensive zone turnover and sprinted through the neutral zone before beating Roan Clarke (19 saves) on the breakaway for the unassisted goal.
Lawton Zacher (38 saves) was stellar from the start and finished the opening frame with 20 saves.
Brown responded in the second period and Brian Nicholas tallied his seventh goal of the season at the tail end of a power play 6:34 into the frame. The Scarsdale, New York native collected a pass from Max Scott and beat Clarke with a low shot.
Tyler Kopff picked up the secondary assist on the goal, his ninth helper of the season.
The Big Green struck for three goals in the third period as Haymes, CJ Foley, and Braiden Dorfman found the back of the net to give the home team a 4-2 lead. Dartmouth added an empty net goal with 30 seconds remaining to push the final to 5-2.
The Bears return to Meehan Auditorium to host the St. Lawrence Saints (6-12-1, 2-4-1 ECAC) and the 19th-ranked Clarkson Golden Knights (12-6-2, 6-2-0 ECAC) on Friday (Jan. 17) and Saturday (Jan. 18), respectively.
Friday's game is set to begin at 7 p.m. with Saturday's game set for 4 p.m. Both games will stream on ESPN+ in the United States and on Stretch Internet internationally.Gallery: (1-11-2025) MIH at Dartmouth (1/11/25)
