Softball's Offense Comes Alive in Win at Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – Brown softball's offense came alive in game two of its doubleheader against Dartmouth. The Bears earned a split in its doubleheader with the win.
GAME 1: DARTMOUTH 5, BROWN 0
Brown had five different players collect a hit but the Bears left eight runners on base in the lost o Dartmouth in game one.
Dartmouth picked up a run on a sacrifice fly in the first and added two more runs in the second.
Brown had runners reach second base in each of the first two innings but could not get a run across. In the fourth, Brown had runners on first and second with no outs and Dartmouth was able to get out of the jam.
Jasmine Hsiao and Cameron Zytkweicz Ray singled in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively but Brown was once again kept off the board.
Dartmouth put two more runs on the board with a two-out double in the fifth to push the game to 5-0.
GAME 2: BROWN 12, DARTMOUTH 9
After being held to just six hits in the first two games of the series, Brown's offense came alive in the finale, with a season-high 12 runs and 14 hits. Jasmine Hsiao capped off the offensive onslaught with a game-winning three-run home run in the top of the seventh.
Hsiao, Dara English and Lily Berlinger all had three hits in the game, while Leah Carey each had two. Berlinger, who had her third three-hit game of the season, had a career-high four RBI. For Hsiao it was her second three-hit game of the season and it was English's first.
It was the first game since March 16, 2019 against Lafayette that Brown had three players with three hits in a game.
Berlinger got Brown on the board in the first with a single that scored Hsiao. The lead was short-lived as Dartmouth scored four runs in the first, helped by three errors from the Bears. In total, Brown committed five errors in the game. Dating back to 2012, Brown had not won a game when committing five errors.
Brown bounced right back in the second with an RBI triple from Brianna Rodriguez. An error by Dartmouth allowed Rodriguez to score and a single by English tied the game. Berlinger gave Brown the lead back with a single to score both English and Vanessa Alexander.
The Big Green scored one in the second and added three more in the third to go back ahead 8-6.
Another RBI single by Berlinger in the fourth pulled the Bears within one and a double by English in the sixth scored Maya Choksi to tie the game.
Dartmouth scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth on another error by the Bears but Brown was not done.
Brown had runners on first and second when Alexander hit a grounder up the middle. An error by Dartmouth's shortstop allowed Carey to score from second to tie the game. On the second pitch of the next at bat, Hsiao delivered with a deep shot to center field for a three-run home run.
After only one other inning without allowing a batter, Alexis Guevara closed out the game, putting down the Big Green in order in the seventh.

Brown returns home for a midweek doubleheader against Rhode Island on Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m.
