#6 Women's Crew Posts Six Wins on Final Day of Ivy Invite
4/13/2024 6:43:00 PM | Women's Crew
PRINCETON, N.J. – The sixth-ranked Brown Bears collected six wins in seven races to close out the 2024 Ivy Invite on Lake Carnegie.
Brown's Varsity 8, 2V8, 3V8, A4, B4, and C4 crews all took wins against several top programs in windy conditions in Princeton.
"Our team came together today to conclude the Ivy Invitational on a strong note," said head coach John Murphy. "High wind on the race course was challenging but the crews handled it well and didn't back down. We were especially impressed with the win by our C4 who battled within a few feet of the second-place crew for the entire 2,000 meters.
"Without question the experience we gained in this two-day regatta will help us in the weeks ahead."
Brown's Varsity 8 shell jumped to an early and posted a time of 6:31.401 to take a 14-second victory over the Columbia Lions (6:45.331).
The Second Varsity 8 continued the dominating stretch with a 20-second victory over Harvard with a time of 6:38.104.
Brown's A4 crew posted a time of 7:18.058 to handily beat Columbia (7:35.798) and Harvard (7:41.128).
The B4 shell had the closest race of the day to that point, crossing the line in 7:35.220 for a 10-second win over the Crimson (7:45.030).
Brown's 3V8 shell, stroked by Ava Honerkamp, battled Harvard through the entire race, eventually edging out the Crimson with a time of 7:02.568 to take a one-second win.
The C4 shell, coxed by Fiona Daly, gave Brown its sixth win of the day with a time of 7:50.561 to narrowly beat Rutgers (7:51.419).
The D4 shell closed out the weekend of racing with a second-place finish, crossing the line in 8:06.146, trailing Rutgers (8:00.868).
The Bears head to Nathan Benderson Park next weekend to compete in the Big 10 Invitational on Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20.
