Men's Hockey Drops Friday Meeting with Dartmouth
3/1/2024 10:03:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
HANOVER, N.H. – A furious comeback effort from the Brown Bears (8-18-2, 6-14-1 ECAC) in the third period came up short as the Dartmouth Big Green (10-9-9, 8-6-7 ECAC) held on for a 5-3 conference win Friday night at Thompson Arena.
"We played with desperation and urgency in the third period – we need to play that way for 60 minutes," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "We also need players to step up and perform in roles that have opened up due to a huge number of injuries. I love this team and believe in the players; we will find a way but the best way would be to start the game like we ended the game."
John Fusco scored the first goal of the night 15:31 into the first with a seeing-eye shot through traffic to beat Brown goaltender Lawton Zacher (18 saves).
Cooper Flinton doubled the Dartmouth lead on the power play 12:37 into the middle frame. Flinton finished a feed from Luke Haymes for his 13th goal of the season.
Braiden Dorfman struck on a rush after a stretch pass from Owen Desilets to push the lead to 3-0 at 15:39 of the second and force a goaltending change with Tyler Shea (6 saves) replacing Zacher.
Thomas Manty cut into the Big Green lead 5:16 into the third with his second of the season. The junior re-directed a point shot from Tony Andreozzi with Mike Cataldo picking up the secondary assist.
Ryan St. Louis cut the lead to one just 22 seconds later with his 13th goal of the season. The sophomore found his own rebound in the slot to beat Dartmouth goaltender Cooper Black (26 saves).
Flinton tallied his second of the game off a stretch pass from Eric Charpentier at 8:37 of the third to push Dartmouth's lead back to two.
With 9:31 remaining, Ryan Shostak wired a shot from the slot to beat Black following a pass from Noah Wakeford off a Dartmouth turnover. Alex Pineau picked up the secondary assist for his eighth helper of the season.
Haymes found the empty net with 1:30 remaining to push the score to 5-3 for the Big Green.
