Men's Hockey Drops Senior Night Game to Princeton
2/24/2024 10:44:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Brown Bears (8-17-2, 6-13-1 ECAC) fell to the Princeton Tigers (10-14-3, 8-1-2-3 ECAC) in an ECAC tilt on Saturday night at Meehan Auditorium.
"I didn't think we were very good at all; it was disappointing to see," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "I thought we started out strong and we just ran out of juice, we're playing a lot of the same guys over and over.
"It's just not going in the right direction, that being said, we need to find a way to stop the snowball going downhill and push it uphill. The only way I know how to do that is by being unbelievably determined in the game. I thought at times we were and at other times we got away from what should be our trademark – work ethic, tenacity, and energy. It just wasn't a good effort. We're a young team, we're still learning, but we need to find a way to play better hockey and we'll be fine, the team is good enough. We'll be much better next weekend."
Princeton took the lead during a power play at 14:12 into the opening period. Brendan Gorman was fed the puck from the faceoff, and sent the shot into the back of the net giving Princeton a 1-0 lead. The Bears held a 9-7 edge in shots on goal in the opening frame.
Princeton quickly extended their lead with another goal 8:06 into the second period. David Jacobs sent the puck from the blue line past Lawton Zacher (19 saves).
The Bears responded just six minutes later with a goal from Ryan St. Louis, his 12th of the season. Ryan Bottrill carried the puck behind Princeton's net and sent it to St. Louis in front of the net for a chip-in goal.
The Tigers retaliated one more time before the period came to a close. With three minutes left in the middle frame, Adam Robbins scored to give Princeton a 3-1 lead.
The final period opened with a goal from the Tigers. A collision in front of the net led to Princeton's fourth goal of the evening from Tyler Rubin. Tyler Shea (13 saves) replaced Zacher between the pipes following the goal.
Halfway through the third period Nick Seitz notched the last goal of the night for the Tigers, extending their lead 5-1.
The Bears will head to Hanover, New Hampshire to take on the Dartmouth Big Green (9-9-9, 7-6-7 ECAC) on Friday at 7 p.m.
