PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (0-2, 0-0 Ivy League) nearly completed the five-goal comeback against the Boston University Terriers (3-1, 0-0 Patriot League) on Tuesday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field, but the visiting Terriers kept the Bears at bay to capture a 16-10 non-conference win.
Louis Perfetto led all scorers with seven goals and nine points while Aidan McLane tallied six goals to lead the Bruno offense.
"I am pretty disappointed in our outcome today but proud of our guys and the team's fight," said head coach Mike Daly. "There are no moral victories and the coaching staff will find a couple of plays and players we need to get over the hump."
The Terriers jumped to an early lead as Perfetto, Vince D'Alto, and Brenden Kelly found the back of the net in the first 10 minutes of play. McLane cut into the BU lead with his first of the game before Perfetto scored his second to give the Terriers a 4-1 lead through 15 minutes.
After Perfetto finished the hat trick to push the score to 5-1, Tanner Burns and McLane scored the final goals of the half to make it 5-3 at the break.
BU extended the lead in a chaotic start to the second half that saw five goals in the first four minutes of play to give BU a 10-4 advantage.
From there, Brown scored four of the final five goals to end the quarter and cut the lead back to three heading to the fourth.
McLane and Spencer Hughes scored to open the fourth quarter and cut the Terrier lead to one, but the Bears were unable to tie the game as BU tallied the final five goals.
