Men's Lacrosse Takes on Providence in Ocean State Cup Battle

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (0-2, 0-0 Ivy League) jump back into action with a trip across town to take on the Providence College Friars (1-2, 0-0 Big East) in the first leg of the 2024 Ocean State Cup.

Saturday's game is slated to begin at noon and will stream on FloSports.

SCOUTING THE BEARS

Brown enters the weekend with a 0-2 record after falling to Quinnipiac and Boston University to begin the season.
Brown averages 8.50 goals per game and are led by junior Aidan McLane, who has nine goals through two games.
Brown's man-up offense has three goals in nine attempts to rank 33rd nationally.
Brown's defense allows 14.50 goals per game to rank 58th nationally.
Connor Theriault has started both games between the pipes and holds a .458 save percentage and 14.58 goals against average.
Brown's man-down defense has allowed three goals in 11 attempts (.727) to rank 24th nationally.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS

The Friars enter the weekend with a 1-2 overall record in 2024. PC opened with a 12-6 win over Holy Cross before falling to Bryant and Harvard.
PC ranks 42nd nationally with 10.67 goals per game. Most recently, the Friars tallied seven goals against the Crimson.
Ryan Bell leads the Friars offensively with nine goals, five assists, and 14 points. Richie Joseph ranks seconds on the team with seven goals and 10 points.
PC's man-up offense has three goals in nine attempts to rank 33rd in the nation alongside Brown.
Defensively, the Friars allow 14.67 goals per game to rank 59th in the nation.
James Corasaniti has started all three games between the pipes and holds a 13.82 goals against average and .441 save percentage.
PC's man-down defense has only allowed one goal in five attempts to rank 14th nationally.
The Providence clear percentage ranks 24th nationally at .891. Opponents clear the ball at a .900 rate against the Friars.

INSIDE THE SERIES

Saturday marks the 28th meeting between Brown and Providence College in a series dating back to 1989.
Brown won the first 22 meetings before falling in 2018.
The Bears are a perfect 12-0 on the road against the Friars.

OCEAN STATE CUP

Saturday kicks off the 15th Ocean State Cup battle between Brown, Bryant, and Providence College.
The Bears look to capture their eighth Ocean State Cup in 2024 and first since 2022.
Brown has won the in-state cup in 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022.
Bryant is defending the Ocean State Cup and look to win the hardware for the sixth time (2011, 2012, 2016, 2021, 2023).
PC won the battle in 2018 and 2020.

McLANE FOR SIX

Aidan McLane recorded his second straight and fifth career hat trick with a six-goal outburst against Boston University (Feb. 20).
McLane leads the Bears in goals (6), points (9), shots (34), and shots on goal (14).
His 4.50 goals per game are tied for third-most nationally along with Notre Dame's Jake Taylor.
