Men's Hockey Returns to Action to Host LIU on Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (3-4-2, 2-3-1 ECAC) return to action with a non-conference matchup against the LIU Sharks (10-6-1, Independent) Sunday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium.
Sunday's game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+ in the United States and on Stretch Internet internationally.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown returns to the ice after posting a 3-1-2 record over the last six games.
- Brian Nicholas leads the Brown offense with four goals and six assists for 10 points and currently has points in five straight games. Tyler Kopff is tied for the team-lead with six assists and ranks second on the team with seven points. Seven other Bears have multiple points this season.
- Brown's power play clicks at 16% (4-25) to rank eighth in the conference. Nicholas leads the team with four power play points with Kopff, Alex Pineau, and Ryan St. Louis each with a pair.
- Defensively, Brown allows 2.2 goals per game to rank second in the ECAC and 14th nationally.
- Lawton Zacher holds a 1.96 goals against average and .934 save percentage in seven starts. His save percentage ranks second in the ECAC and eighth in the NCAA and his goals against average ranks fifth in the conference and 14th nationally.
- The penalty kill ranks fourth in the conference and 22nd nationally at 82.8% (25-for-29). Brown only takes 7.1 penalty minutes per game, the ninth-fewest in the nation.
- LIU enters Sunday with a 10-6-1 overall record. The Sharks are 7-2-0 in the last nine games with an overtime loss to 10th-ranked Providence and a loss at Vermont.
- The Sharks average 2.6 goals per game to rank 26th nationally. Carter Rapalje leads the team with six goals and eight assists for 14 points. Omni Leppanen and Riley Wallack also have six goals this season.
- LIU's power play ranks sixth in the NCAA at 27.4% (17-for-62).
- Defensively, the Sharks allow 2.9 goals per game to rank 29th in the nation.
- Four goalies have seen action this season with Ty Outen leading the pack with a 2.01 goals against average and .919 save percentage in six starts.
- LIU's penalty kill clicks at 80.8% (42-52) to rank 31st in the NCAA.
- Sunday marks the fifth meeting between Brown and LIU dating back to the 2021-22 season.
- LIU holds the series edge, 2-1-1, along with a 1-0-1 record at Meehan Auditorium.
- The Bears tallied the night's final three goals in the third period, but were unable to find the equalizer, falling 4-3 at Northeastern on Saturday, December 7.
- Brian Nicholas led the Bears with two goals and an assist in the comeback effort. Alex Pineau added a goal and an assist Ryan St. Louis chipped in two assists.
- Lawton Zacher finished the night with 32 saves between the pipes.
- Captain Tony Andreozzi skated in his 100th career game at Northeastern (Dec. 7).
- He is the first Bear since the 2019-20 season to reach the century milestone.
- The Winchester, Massachusetts native has not missed a game in his career.
- Three Bears reached the 100-game milestone in the 2019-20 season: Brent Beaudoin (127), Trey Dodd (108), and Zach Giuttari (121). Beaudoin did not miss a game in his career.
- Michael Maloney (96), Justin Jallen (94) and Luke Krys (92) were the closest Bears to the milestone in recent years.
- Neither Maloney nor Krys missed a game in their respective careers.
- Freshman Brian Nicholas has points in five straight games and leads the team with 10 points this season. The freshman has multiple points in consecutive games.
- He leads ECAC freshmen with 1.11 points per game and ranks third overall in the conference, trailing only Dartmouth's Nikita Nikora (1.27) and CJ Foley (1.18).
- In the NCAA, Nicholas is tied for 23rd in points per game alongside Denver's Zeev Buium. He ranks third in the nation among freshmen, trailing only Boston College's James Hagens and Michigan's Michael Hage.
- Sophomore Alex Pineau recorded his second straight multi-point game at Northeastern (12/7), adding a goal and an assist during Brown's third period comeback effort.
- Previously, the Thunder Bay, Ontario native picked up ECAC Defender of the Week honors following his three-point effort in the series finale against Air Force (11/30).
- Pineau is tied for the team lead with four goals and ranks third on the team with six points.
