PROVIDENCE, R.I. – No. 14 Brown women's hockey (6-1-0, 4-1-0 ECAC) suffered its first defeat of the season in an overtime loss to No. 5 Colgate (10-3-0, 3-0-0), 4-3 on Friday night.
Monique Lyons, India McDadi and Margot Norehad all found the back of the net for Brown. Sam Broz led Brown with two assists, while Cameron Sikich, Victoria Damiani, Abby Hancock and Lyons all had one. Rory Edwards finished the game with 35 saves.
Edwards made two saves in the overtime period but 1:45 into the extra frame, Colgate took advantage of a Brown turnover and Neena Brick put the puck past Edwards for the winning tally.
In a game that featured five power play goals, Colgate got on the board first with an extra skater at 12:14 in the opening period.
Brown responded in the second on a power play of its own as Lyons (5) wristed one over the shoulder of Hannah Murphy from the near circle at 17:49. Lyons goal was assisted by Broz and Sikich.
Less than two minutes later, Colgate picked up its second power play goal of the evening to take a 2-1 lead into the final period.
Under two minutes into the third, Brown knotted the game as McDadi (2) weaved through the defense from center ice and went glove side.
After a Colgate penalty, Broz threw the puck in front and a loose rebound was finished off by Norehad (3) to put Brown up 3-2.
At 7:16 in the third period, Brown found itself in a tough position as Sikich was sent off with a five-minute major and game misconduct putting the Bears down a skater for the next five minutes. Colgate tied up the game halfway through the power play but Brown was able to kill the rest of the penalty to keep the game tied for the remainder of the third.
