Women's Hockey Set for ECAC Quarterfinals at Quinnipiac

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's hockey heads to No. 3 seed Quinnipiac to begin a three-game series in the ECAC Quarterfinals on Friday (Feb. 27).

The first game of the series will be on Friday with puck drop set for 6 p.m. On Saturday (Feb. 28), game two of the series will start at 3 p.m. Sunday's game, if necessary, will begin at 2 p.m. All of the games will be streamed on ESPN+.

SKATE SHAVINGS
• Brown advanced past the Opening Round of the ECAC Tournament with a 7-2 win over Dartmouth on Saturday (Feb. 21). The Bears matched their season-high with seven goals. Three Bears (Monique Lyons, Sam Broz and Jade Iginla) all finished with three points in the win.
• Brown has now won its Opening Round game in two of the last three seasons.
• Sam Broz was named ECAC Forward of the Week for her two-goal, one assist performance in the win over Dartmouth.
• Jade Iginla was named Third Team All-ECAC, becoming the first Bear to be named All-ECAC since Haley Moore in 2013-14. Monique Lyons and Isabella Gratzl were named Second Team All-Ivy and India McDadi was voted Honorable Mention All-Ivy.
• Brown's 16 overall wins are the most under head coach Melanie Ruzzi and the most since winning 18 games in the 2003-04 season. Brown's 12 ECAC wins are the most since 12 in the 2003-04 season.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
• Quinnpiac earned the three-seed in the ECAC Tournament with a 14-6-2 record in conference play
• The Bobcats are riding a three-game winning streak and four-game unbeaten streak into the Quarterfinals against Brown.
• In Quinnipiac's last game, a 4-3 overtime win over Yale to close out the regular season, Quinnipiac scored two goals in the final minute of regulation with the goalie pulled.
• Kahlen Lamarche leads the team with 35 goals and 52 points.

INSIDE THE SERIES
• Brown is 10-27-5 all-time against Quinnipiac and has won three of the last five meetings with the Bobcats.
• Brown split the season series with Quinnpiac with both teams winning on their home ice.
• The Bears five goals they allowed to Quinnipac in the last meeting are the most since allowing five on Oct. 29, 2021.
• This will be the first time Brown and Quinnipiac have played each other in the ECAC Tournament.

THIS SEASON'S MATCHUPS
• The Bears went 1-1 against Quinnipiac with both teams winning on their home ice.
• Brown won the first game of the season 1-0 with India McDadi scoring on the power play at 8:49 in the third.
• Rory Edwards had 33 saves for the Bears in the shutout
• Quinnipiac won the second meeting of the season, 5-2, jumping on the Bears early.
• Brown allowed three goals in the first six minutes of the game.
• Jade Iginla and Monique Lyons both scored for Brown.

IGINLA SHINING
• Jade Iginla was named ECAC Forward of the Week on Feb. 10 for the second-straight week after helping Brown to a 2-0 weekend with wins over St. Lawrence and Clarkson.
• Iginla finished the weekend with five points, including tying a career-high with four points (two goals, two assists) in a 4-1 win over Clarkson.
• Against Clarkson, Iginla scored her 50th-career goal, becoming just the 14th Bear in program history to reach the mark.
• Iginla has moved into 22nd all-time in Brown program history for scoring with 95-career points. Iginla is four points shy of moving to 21st.
• The senior captain is riding a seven-game point streak. During the streak, Iginla has seven goals and nine assists. She has reached two points in five of the seven games during the streak and has three games of three points or higher.
• With her three assists against Dartmouth, Iginla now has a career-high 29 points this season.
• If Iginla adds one more point, she would team up with Monique Lyons as the first duo for Brown to have 30+ points in a season since Hayley Moore (43) and Keaton Zucker (33) back in 2005-06.

TWO FOR 2
• Monique Lyons is riding a seven-game point streak but had her two-point streak end with just an assist at Princeton in the regular season finale
• The five-game two-point streak was the longest for any player under head coach Melanie Ruzzi and the first since at least 2008-09.
• Lyons now has two seven-game point streaks this season.
• The sophomore has set career-highs in both goals (16) and assists (16).
• With 32 points, Lyons has become the first Bear to have 30 points in a season since Hayley Moore had 36 points in the 2006-07 season.

MORE FROM MCDADI
• India McDadi has posted a career-high 10 goals and 16 assists this season.
• The 26 points by McDadi are a career-high and the senior now has three-straight seasons with at least 20 points.
• McDadi is first Bear to have three-straight 20-point seasons since Hayley Moore posted four-straight from 2004-05 to 2007-08.

THE 20-POINT MARK
• Brown has five players this season who have reached the 20-point mark. Monique Lyons leads the way for Brown with 32 points. She is followed by Jade Iginla (29), India McDadi (26), Margot Norehad (25) and Sam Broz (20).
• The last season that Brown had at least five players record 20 or more points in a season was in 2003-04 when six Bears reached the mark.

LIGHTING UP THE LAMP
• Four Bears have scored double-figure goals this season with Monique Lyons having scored a team-high 16 goals. Jade Iginla (14), Margot Norehad (13) and India McDadi (10) have all reached that mark.
• The last time Brown had four players score double-figure goals was in the 2002-03 season.

DOUBLE-DOUBLES
• For the first time since the 2001-02 season, Brown has four players with 10+ goals and 10+ assists this season. Monique Lyons (16 goals, 16 assists) leads the way, followed by Jade Iginla (14, 15) Margot Norehad (13, 12) and India McDadi (10, 16).

DISARMING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
• Brown's four goals against Clarkson are the most since scoring 10 in a matchup in 1984.
• The Bears held Clarkson to one goal for the first time since a 1-1 tie on Nov. 1, 2013.
• It was the first win at home for the Bears against the Golden Knights since a 2-1 win on Jan. 11, 2013.
• Anya Zupkofksa returned from injury for the Bears and finished the game with 21 saves, allowing just the one goal.

SWEEPING THE SAINTS
• Brown has now scored at least three goals in three-straight games against St. Lawrence for the first time since a three-game stretch that went from the final two games of the 2002-03 season to the first meeting of the 2003-04 season.
• The Bears won both games against St. Lawrence this season, winning both regular season matchups against the Saints for the first time since the 1999-2000 season.

OPENING THE FLOODGATES AT UNION
• The Bears scored a season-high seven goals at Union including a five-goal second period.
• The seven goals were the most Brown has scored against Union since scoring eight goals on Dec. 4, 2004, the fourth meeting in the series.
• Seven different Bears found the net on the night, the most Bears to score a goal in a game since eight Bears scored in a 10-0 win over Sacred Heart on Dec. 7, 2011.
• Brown's five second period goals are the most in a period for Brown since scoring five against Franklin Pierce in the second period on Oct. 18, 2024.
• The Bears' three power play goals are a season-high and the most the Bears have scored on the power play since netting four power play goals against RPI on Dec. 5, 2014.

ALL KINDS OF GOALS
• Against RPI on Jan. 31, Brown scored an even-strength, power play, shorthanded and empty net goal.
• This is the first game that Brown has had all four types of goal since against RPI on Feb. 16, 2013.

ROLLING THE RAIDERS
• Brown scored a season-high six goals in a 6-2 rout over No. 12/14 Colgate on Jan. 17. The win for Brown was the first win over Colgate since Nov. 2, 2018.
• The Bears' six goals are the most Brown has ever scored in a game against Colgate.
• After tying Colgate in the first meeting of the season, Brown had its first unbeaten season against the Raiders (1-0-1) since also going 1-0-1 during the 2011-12 season.
• Brown' Monique Lyons and Margot Norehad each had three points with two goals and an assist. The last time Brown had two players each score two goals in a game was Oct. 18 2024 against Franklin Pierce (Sam Broz, Ava DeCoste).
• The last time Brown had two players finish with two goals and an assist in a game was Nov. 1, 2014 in a 7-4 win over St. Lawrence (Brittany Moorehead, Sam Donovan).

WEEKLY AWARDS
• Isabella Gratzl was named ECAC Defender of the Week on Nov. 11, the first Bear to pick up a weekly honor this season. Gratzl finished the weekend against Delaware with a goal and two assists.
• Monique Lyons earned her first ECAC Forward of the Week honor on Nov. 18 after helping the Bears going 2-0 on the weekend with wins over Dartmouth and Harvard. Lyons scored on goal against the Big Green before posting a three-point game with two goals, including the overtime game-winner against Harvard.
• Anya Zupkofska was named ECAC Goaltender of the Week on Nov. 18 for the first time after going 2-0 against Dartmouth and Harvard. Zupkofska posted her third shutout of the season against Dartmouth (26 saves) and earned the win with 25 saves against Harvard.
• Victoria Damiani earned her first ECAC weekly honor, being named ECAC Defender of the Week on Jan. 6. Damiani finished with four assists in three games for Brown last week.
• Jade Iginla was named ECAC Forward of the Week on Feb. 3. Iginla had five points in games against Union and RPI.

GRATZL HAD A MONTH
• Isabella Gratzl was named ECAC Defender of the Month for the month of November. Gratzl finished the month with four goals and four assists, to be second on the team in points with eight.
• Gratzl had a five-game point streak during the month and had a goal in three-straight games from Nov. 14-21
• The first year was also named a runner up for AHCA National Defender of the Month.
• Gratzl is the first Bear to win an ECAC monthly award since Anna Hurd was named ECAC Rookie of the month on Nov. 2, 2021.

YOU CAN CALL IT A COMEBACK
• Brown had a comeback for the ages with a 4-3 overtime win against RPI on Jan. 2. The Bears erased a three-goal deficit in the final ten minutes of regulation before India McDadi scored the game winner in overtime. Brown scored two goals with an extra attacker to send the game into overtime.
• The win was the first win for Brown under head coach Melanie Ruzzi where the Bears completed a three-goal comeback.
• It was the first game since at least 1999-2000 that Brown has overcome a three-goal third-period deficit.
• The last time Brown won a game in which it trailed by three goals was a 5-3 win over Maine on Nov. 8 2014. Brown trailed 3-0 at 6:59 in the first period.
• Brown last overcame a two-goal third-period deficit against St. Lawrence in a win over the Saints on Jan. 17, 2025. That game also featured a tying goal in the third period with an extra attacker for the Bears.

STRONG START FOR THE BEARS
• Brown began the season 2-0-0 with wins over No. 13 Boston University and Merrimack. It is the second-straight season Brown has started 2-0-0 and the first time Brown has going 2-0-0 to start back-to-back seasons since 2000-01 and 2001-02
• The win at No. 13 Boston University was the first ranked win in a season opener for the Bears since Brown beat No. 2 Minnesota to start the 2000-01 season.
• Brown's 7-2-1 start to the season is the best 10-game start for the Bears since Brown went 8-2-0 to start the 1999-00 season. Brown bested their 6-4-0 start from last season.
• Brown matched its most wins before the winter break (9) since the Bears won nine games in the 2004-05 season, that year the Bears started the season 9-4-0.

HITTING THE WINS IN 2024-25
• With Brown's win over Dartmouth, the Bears reached 14 wins on the year and nine wins in ECAC play. Both of those numbers are the most for Brown since the 2005-06 season.
• The Bears earned their first winning record since the 2005-06 season.
• Brown's five Ivy League wins last season are the most since winning five in the 2003-04 season.

ZUPKOFSKA SHUTOUTS
• Sophomore Anya Zupkofska posted her first-career shutout in the 1-0 win over Merrimack on Oct. 19.
• Zupkofska followed that up with her second shutout of the season, putting up a clean sheet against Delaware. Zupkofska finished with 21 saves in the shutout.
• Zupkofska kept the sheet clean with a 26-save shutout against Dartmouth before allowing her first goal of the season 6:26 seconds into the game against Harvard.
• Dating back to last season, Zupkofska had a shutout streak of 188:17. It is the longest streak by a Bear goaltender since Ali Brewer posted a 376:03 streak in 1998-99.
• Zupkofska and Rory Edwards have combined for four shutouts this season through 10 games. The four shutouts match the most in a season for the Bears since 2011-12.

WHO NEEDS SHOTS
• Brown beat No. 13 Boston University despite finishing the game with just 18 shots on goal. Brown had not won a game in the last two seasons (0-17-0) when registering less than 20 shots.
• Brown completed the comeback with a third period goal, a period in which the Bears had just four shots. the fewest in the game.

I GUESS SHOTS DO WORK
• In the win over Merrimack Brown flipped the script, peppering Merrimack with 43 shots. It was the most shots for the Bears in a game since firing 47 against Harvard on Feb. 7, 2025.
• Brown outshot Merrimack 43-10, matching the largest discrepancy since that Harvard game (47-14).
• Brown's 43 shots netting just one goal are the most shots in a game with one goal or fewer since the Bears were shutout despite 47 shots in a loss against Union in 2010.
• In Brown's win over Delaware, the Bears tallied 54 shots, the most shots by a Bears team since the season opener against Franklin Pierce last season (56 shots).

BEARS IN THE PWHL
• Brown had three former players earn spots on training camp rosters in the PWHL. Former goalie Shay Maloney earned a roster spot with the Boston Fleet, Kaley Doyle was in camp with the New York Sirens, and Cam Sikich was in camp with the Minnesota Frost.

TAKING DOWN THE BOBCATS
• Brown shutout Quinnipiac for a win over the No. 7 ranked Bobcats on Oct. 25. In a series that has been dominated by the Bobcats, Brown is now 3-0-1 in the last four meetings.
• It is the first time Brown has gone unbeaten against Quinnipiac in four-straight games since the first four games the two teams ever played from 2002-06.
• In the win, Brown shutdown an offense that had been averaging 4.50 goals per game. It is the second-straight game Brown has shutout Quinnipiac. The last time a non-Brown team had shutout Quinnipiac was Cornell on March 2, 2024.

SEEING THE POLLS
• Brown was ranked in the USA Hockey poll for seven-straight weeks before falling out of the polls on Jan. 6. It is the longest stretch in the rankings for the Bears since being ranked for 19 weeks in the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons.
• The No. 11 ranking is also the highest in a season for the Bears since 2005-06, when the Bears were ranked 10th at one point.

EARLY SEASON SCORING
• Monique Lyons had eight goals through Brown's first 12 games. Lyons passed Jade Iginla, who had seven goals through Brown's first 12 games when she was a freshman in the 2022-23 season.
• The last Bear to have more goals through the first 12 games in a season was Sena Hanson, who scored nine goals in Brown's first 12 games. Hanson's 10th goal of the season came in Brown's 14 game of the year.

SCORING EARLY...
• Against Providence, Brown scored at the 1:43 mark in the first period. It was the fastest Brown goal in a game since Oct. 25, 2022 against Harvard.
• The Bears followed that up with a goal just 2:47 into the game against New Hampshire. Iginla's goal against the Wildcats was the second-fastest goal of the season.
