Matchup History
Brown Bears Football Report: Episode 8
OPENING KICKOFF
- Yale fell at Cornell 47-23, and defeated Penn 31-10 earlier this season in their only two matchups so far against common opponents. Brown is 1-1 against those opponents, with the opposite results having lost to Penn and defeating Cornell.
- The Bears started the year 2-0, but have dropped four of their last five, with the last three coming by double digits.
- Both teams rank in the top four in the Ivy League in passing offense, rushing offense, and total offense.
OUT OF THE GATES
- Brown has gotten off to slow starts this season, getting outscored 68-28 in the first quarter. Opponents have scored first in five of the seven games.
- Brown has led only once this season at the end of the first quarter (Georgetown).
- The second half starts have been much better, outscoring the opposition, 48-34.
- The Bears are narrowly outscoring opponents in both the second and fourth quarters.
BALANCING ACT
- The 2024 Bears have featured the most balanced offensive attack of the James Perry era. Passing yards have accounted for 64.5 percent of the team's total offense this season, with 35.5 percent of the team's yards coming on the ground. Compared to last season when Brown got nearly 76 percent of its yards through the air and just over 24 percent on the ground.
THE KID'S GOT IT!
- Rookie tailback Matt Childs was one of 30 freshmen named to the Watch List for the Jerry Rice Award.
- Presented by Stats Perform, the award is presented annually to the top freshman player in FCS Football.
- His 41.30 receiving yards per game rank 16th in the Ivy League, while his 41.10 rushing yards per contest rank 11th, with both marks leading all Ivy rookies.
DEFENSIVE TRIO WITH CAREER DAYS
- Three members of the Brown defense tallied career-highs in tackles and TFLs last week vs. Penn.
- John Perdue: 11.0 tackles, 3.0 TFLs, and his first career sack, which resulted in a safety, the first for the Bears since 2017.
- Tim Malo: 9.0 tackles, 1.0 TFLs
- Nate Lussier (a converted QB): 5.0 tackles, 2.0 TFLs.
CLIMBING THE LADDER

- The Bears lead the Ivy League and rank 12th in FCS in passing offense (271.7).
SACK STORY
