INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Yale scored touchdowns on eight of its 13 possessions, putting up 510 yards of offense on the day.
- Brown turned the ball over four times, including three interceptions, leading to 14 Bulldog points.
- Brown posted 33 first downs to Yale's 21. The Bears totaled 459 yards on offense, including 343 through the air.
- Twelve different Bears caught passes, led by fifth-year Mark Mahoney who had a career-high 10 catches for 115 yards and a touchdown.
- Sophomore Michael Nesbit had a career-high 53 yards receiving on a pair of catches.
- Freshman Matt Childs rushed for 64 yards on 16 carries. Senior Stockton Owen ran for 33 yards and a touchdown, and junior Qwentin Brown added a pair of one-yard rushing touchdowns.
- Senior Caleb Moorhead had 8.0 tackles, including 1.0 tackle for loss and a fumble recovery. Junior Sam Smith added 2.0 tackles for loss.
- Fifth-year Jake Willcox was 32-for-48 passing for 273 yards and a touchdown. His 6,858 passing yards now rank No. 2 on the program's all-time list, trailing only head coach James Perry '00 who holds the record with 9,294.
- Sophomore James Murphy was 5-for-8 passing for 70 yards in relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Helped in part by a 4th-and-5 conversion from the Brown 25, Yale scored on its opening possession on a nine-yard catch and run for the early 7-0 lead at 10:29.
- The Bears answered right back to tie the game with a 75-yard drive, capped by a one-yard score by Qwentin Brown at the 6:16 mark.
- Yale struck for two touchdowns in a span of 15 seconds in the final minute of the opening quarter to take a 21-7 lead. The first came one play after a 4th-and-7 conversion on a 25-yard pass, and the second came on a 29-yard pass on the first play after an interception.
- Following Yale's second interception in the final minute of the first quarter, the Bulldogs needed five plays to score once more, coming on a three-yard quarterback run at 13:25 of the second quarter.
- Qwentin Brown got the Bears back on the board at 8:20 with a one-yard run to make it 28-14. Brown converted two third downs of 10+ yards on the drive, including an 11-yard pass to Ben Moseley to the one-yard line.
- After a Brown interception was overturned, Yale scored on its next play on a 14-yard pass on third down to make it 35-14 at 5:24.
- Christopher Maron pulled Brown within 35-17 at halftime with a 22-yard field goal in the final minute of the half, then tacked on another from 35 yards out to make it 35-20 at 9:05 of the third quarter.
- Brown answered a Yale score with a 33-yard strike from Willcox to Mahoney to pull Brown within 42-26 at 2:29 of the third quarter after the failed two-point attempt.
- Murphy sparked a Bears scoring drive off the bench, completing both of his passes for 44 yards to set up a 15-yard scoring rush by Owen with just under two minutes remaining. Owen also caught the two-point conversion to make it 49-34.
- Yale added a 44-yard touchdown run on the first play after recovering an onside kick to cap the scoring.
UP NEXT
The Bears will return home for the final time in 2024 to face Columbia next Saturday, November 16 on Senior Day. Kickoff is set for noon on ESPN+.
