Football Holds 2025-26 Annual Awards Banquet

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Football program reflected on its 2025 season on Saturday, April 11 with its Annual Awards Banquet at the Graduate by Hilton Providence. The event featured multiple guest speakers, as well as speeches from several coaches, administrators and football student-athlete award winners. The event was emceed by Brown football radio play-by-play announcer, Jorge Bannister.
Eugene C. Swift '42 Award
Presented to senior linebacker Ryan Haley and senior quarterback Ty Holtz
Awarded by the Brown Club of Philadelphia (PA), in honor of the late Eugene C. Swift '42. This award is given for character, devotion, fairness and personal courage.
Edward T. Brackett '14 Award
Presented to senior wide receiver Solomon Miller
Awarded to the player in the senior class who during his varsity career demonstrated the greatest improvement in his performance on the playing field.
Charles E. Young - Hillhouse Ltd. Award
Presented to senior defensive lineman Nolan Clark and senior defensive lineman Pat O'Neill
Established in 1979 as an award in the memory of Charles E. Young, Jr. of Magnolia, N.J., a willing and enthusiastic worker who helped guide outstanding student-athletes to Brown. Its recipient is the "unsung hero."
Gordon and Chris Perry P'88 '92 Community Service Award
Presented to senior running back Qwentin Brown
Given to the varsity football player who is active in community service and exhibits the qualities of scholarship, leadership and concern for others. This award is named in honor of Chris Perry, the mother of Linda, Bill '88, and Scott '91. Both sons played varsity football for the Bears. A loyal supporter, Chris was active in bringing alumni, parents and others together as members of the Brown community. Chris was the wife of Gordon Perry '55, a past president of the Brown Football Association, and a long-time proponent of providing the support needed by our student-athletes in their quest for excellence.
Frederick "Fritz" Pollard '19 Award
Presented to senior defensive back Nevaeh Gattis
Presented to the senior who, despite trials and tribulations, continued to demonstrate a relentless pursuit of gridiron achievement in the tradition of Frederick "Fritz" Pollard.
Kilgore Macfarlane Western States Football Award
Presented to senior tight end Dillon Golden
Awarded to a member of the football squad from a western state who best exemplifies leadership, ability and conduct in the tradition of Brown University.
Kevin T. Slattery '76 Award
Presented to sophomore running back Matt Childs and junior quarterback James Murphy
Presented in honor of Kevin Slattery '76 to that member of the team who displays the best overall combination of leadership, academic performance, and football potential in the earliest phase of his Brown career. The award was initiated by Kevin's family and his good friends Dan O'Connell '76 and Ken O'Keefe '76 to keep Kevin's memory alive.
Kevin Kehoe '83 Award
Presented to freshman offensive lineman Sam Brackney
Awarded to a freshman member of the team who through performance, dedication and contribution, best exemplifies the spirit of Kevin Kehoe '83.
Ernest T. Savignano '42 Memorial Scholarship
Presented to sophomore wide receiver Trevor Foley
Ernest T. Savignano '42, for whom this scholarship is named, was a man for all seasons. He was a varsity letterman in football, baseball, basketball, ice hockey and boxing. Yet above all, Ernie was a man of leadership, integrity, ability and warmth. This scholarship was established in 1994 by his '42 teammates, his former players and his friends to memorialize him through the Brown University Scholarship Program. A new recipient is chosen each year, with preference given to academically qualified students who are exceptional leaders and are heavily involved in extracurricular activities, especially the sport of football.
Broomhead Memorial Trophy
Presented to senior wide receiver Ty Pezza
Established in 1967 as an award in memory of the late Frederick S. Broomhead '05, by his sons, Williams '35 and Lloyd '49. Its recipient must be the "football player whose continuous and generous contributions to Brown athletics and loyal devotion to his university promise to make him an ambassador of Brown in the tradition of Fred Broomhead."
Dave Zucconi '55 Brown Pride Award
Presented to Robert Hughes
Initiated in 1991, this award is given for loyalty, support, service and faith in Brown Football.
Sports Foundation Jay Barry '50 Award
Presented to Will Hayes, Assistant Director of Development
Recognizes the contributions to Brown Football of someone other than a football player. It is given to a person whose efforts and energies on behalf of the program have enhanced the success of the team. The Sports Foundation endowed this award in the name of Jay Barry whose tireless efforts on behalf of Brown best exemplify the spirit of this award.
Class of 1910 Football Trophy
Presented to senior defensive lineman Owen Clarke
Awarded to the senior with the highest scholastic standing for the first seven semesters at Brown University. The winner must be a member of the varsity squad and have earned a varsity letter.
William H. Perry '88 Defensive Lineman Award
Presented to senior defensive lineman John Starman
Formerly the Brown Football Association Defensive Lineman Award (1979-2009), this award is presented to the most valuable defensive lineman whose leadership, performance and dedication exemplifies the spirit of William H. Perry '88, who is a Brown All-American, All-Ivy Player, a member of the 125th Anniversary Football Team and the Brown Athletic Hall of Fame.
Paul K. Sloan '97 Offensive Lineman Award
Presented to junior offensive lineman Danny Thompson
Formerly the Brown Football Association Offensive Lineman Award (1975-2000), this award was renamed in honor of Paul K. Sloan '97, an offensive lineman who lost his life in the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. This award is presented to the most outstanding offensive lineman, who through his performance, dedication and positive attitude reflect the spirit of Paul Sloan '97.
Richard F. Carolan '58 Ironman Award
Presented to senior linebacker Sam Smith
This annual award honors the memory of Richard "Dick" Carolan, '58. Dick played both center and linebacker, and was named the Ironman after his sophomore season, which he led his team in minutes played. Also called "Chief", Carolan provided constant leadership for Brown Football from graduation to his passing in 2022.
Berylson Heisman
Presented to senior defensive back Elias Archie
Awarded annually to the most outstanding player on the Brown University Football Team whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. Winners epitomize great ability combined with humility, diligence, perseverance and hard work while making those around him better.
Tuss McLaughry MVP Award
Presented to senior linebacker John Perdue
Previously known as the War Memorial Trophy (1956-1977), the Tuss McLaughry Award is presented to "that member of the varsity football squad who through sportsmanship, performance, and influence contributed most to the sport at Brown."
