Volleyball Sweeps Harvard Behind Balanced Offense

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown volleyball (6-11, 3-4 Ivy) swept Harvard (8-8, 3-4 Ivy) behind a balanced offense to close out the first half of Ivy League play on Saturday night.
Brown had three players with double-figure kills as Kayla Griebl led the way with 14 kills. Beau Vanderlaan finished with 10 kills, hitting .529 and Mariia Sidorova also had 10 kills.
Julia Kakkis led Brown's offense with her second-straight 30+ assist game, collecting 32 helpers.
Both Griebl and Sidorova finished with double-doubles on the night. Sidorova was tied with Jessie Golden for the team lead with 12 digs and Griebl had 11. Vanderlaan finished the night with seven blocks to lead Brown's net defense.
Sidorova also led Brown with four aces as the Bears collected seven on the night.
The Bears took control early in the first set, going on a 7-0 run that featured two Sidorova aces and a kill by Vanderlaan to make the score 10-4 Brown. After Harvard closed the gap to two, Brown used another 4-0 run to push the lead back to 18-12. Griebl finished off the set with a kill for the Bears, who took set one 25-17.
A tight second set saw a 3-0 run by Brown put the Bears up 16-12 as Griebl collected a kill and Golden picked up an ace for Brown. The Bears took at six-point lead after a 4-1 run as the Bears went up 21-15. Brown closed out the set on a 4-1 run with kills by Vanderlaan and Kakkis bookending the run and Brown winning the set 25-17.
Brown trailed 20-16 in the third set as Harvard looked to keep the match alive. Brown tied the set at 20 with a 4-0 run capped by a block by Sidorova and Vanderlaan. With the match tied at 22, Griebl had back-to-back kills to give Brown match point. After a point from Harvard, a service error by the Crimson gave Brown the match
