FIRST SERVE
- Brown will remain on the road to start the second half of the Ivy League season as the Bears will take on Yale on Saturday. Brown is coming off road wins at Dartmouth and Harvard last weekend.
- The Bears took down Dartmouth in four sets, marking the first match that went longer than three sets in the seven matches. Brown dropped the first set to Dartmouth before winning the next three, marking the first match under head coach Taylor Virtue that the Bears won a match after dropping the first set.
- Brown turned around the next day to sweep Harvard, marking the fifth match in the last six against the Crimson that Brown has swept Harvard.
- Kayla Griebl shined for the Bears over the weekend, collecting a career-high 21 kills in the win against Dartmouth. She followed up that performance with a team-best 14 kills and added 11 digs in the win over Harvard. For her effort, Griebl win her first-career Ivy League Player of the Week award.
- Julia Kakkis has taken over quarterbacking Brown's offense as the freshman posted 30+ assists in both matches last weekend. Her 37 assists and 15 digs against Dartmouth were both career-highs. Kakkis was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career after her performances.
- First year Julia Kakkis has stepped in in the absence of Ella Park and has finished the last eight matches with at least 22 assists. Kakkis is now averaging 6.68 assists per set for the Bears. Kakkis' nine matches this season with at least 20 assists is the most by a Brown freshmen since Park had seven matches in her first year in 2022.
- Brown first year middle blocker Sophia Wolfson has started to shine for the Bears. Wolfson is is now averaging 1.64 kills per set and leads the team with 16 service aces. She is second on the team with 37 total blocks at 0.84 per set.
- Wolfson has finished with a career-high 10 kills in each of the last two matches and hit a career-high .692 against Columbia. Her .692 hitting percentage was the highest of any Bear this season with at least 10 attempts in a match.
- Hot starts are a good sign for the Bears as Brown is 22-4 under Taylor Virtue when winning the first set of a match and 17-2 when winning the first two sets. The only two losses were to Yale last season and the season opener against Providence this year.
- When the Bears lose the first set under Virtue, Brown is 1-9 this season and 1-13 overall. Brown picked up its first win after dropping the first set against Dartmouth last Friday
- Brown began the season with nine-straight games away from home. It will be the most games away to start a season since playing nine-straight on the road back in 2018. During that stretch, Brown went 6-3.
- This season, Brown went 3-6 during those nine matches.
- The Bears did not spend much time on the court last season, playing in 16 straight-set matches. The Bears finished out the regular season with 10 of their final 12 matches going three sets. Overall, Brown was 14-2 in three set matches. The Bears only went five sets in three matches all season, going 2-1.
- Quick matches have been the downfall for the Bears this season as Brown is just 3-6 in three-set matches this season. The Bears started Ivy League play with three-straight three-set losses were swept in four-straight matches overall before sweeping Columbia. Brown was then swept by Cornell in its last match.
- The four sweeps in Ivy League play are the most for Brown since being swept six times in 2019.
- The last time Brown was swept in four-straight matches was in 2006, when the Bears were swept in six-straight matches.
- Victoria Vo is the most recent member of the 1,000-dig club at Brown having reached the milestone against Penn on Oct. 5.
- Jessie Golden is right on Vo's heels with 965 digs.
- Senior Beau Vanderlaan is etching her name in the Brown record book when it comes to blocks. Vanderlaan currently has 384 blocks, which sits second all-time in Brown program history. The Chicago native is currently third-place all-time and if she gets to 400 blocks, would become just the second Bear to ever reach the milestone (Leyla Goldsmith '97 - 428).
- Vanderlaan also has a career blocks per set mark of 1.1, which would be the best number by a Bear in program history.
- The Bulldogs are 12-3 and 7-0 in Ivy League play. Yale has won 27-straight matches on its home court and have not lost in New Haven since 2021.
- Yale leads the Ivy League in kills per set (13.85), assists per set (12.43) and hitting percentage (.272). The Bulldogs' mark of 13.85 kills per set is 17th in the NCAA.
- Laurece Abraham is 13th in the NCAA and leads the league with a .424 hitting percentage.
- Brown has struggled with the Bulldogs, dropping the last eight meetings with Yale and has lost four-straight games in New Haven, including the last two Ivy League Tournament finals.
