SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Brown Bears (5-9-1, 3-5-0 ECAC) stormed back with the tying goal in the final minute and overtime winner to stun the Union Garnet Chargers (8-10-0, 3-4-0 ECAC) with a 3-2 road win Friday night at Messa Rink.
"We played a detailed, hard, and heavy road game," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "We competed with tremendous determination and when you do that you're usually rewarded with a positive result. That was a big win; we needed and earned it."
Max Scott struck just 33 seconds into the game after picking up a stretch pass from Tyler Kopff and beating Union goaltender Kyle Chauvette (31 saves) with a second effort. After ten minutes of review, it was determined to be no goal.
Brown controlled play through the first and held an 11-7 edge in shots on goal through 20 minutes. Both teams came up empty on a power play opportunity in the frame.
Scott found the back of the net with 2:47 remaining in the second period on Brown's third power play of the night. The freshman re-directed a blocked shot from Ryan St. Louis for the night's first goal. Ethan Mistry picked up the secondary assist on the goal.
Just 33 seconds later, Thomas Richter beat Brown goaltender Lawton Zacher (17 saves) to even the score at 1-1.
Before the period ended, Union took a 2-1 lead as Carter Korpi tallied a short-handed goal with 27 seconds remaining.
Alex Pineau found the back of the net with 26 seconds remaining in the third to force overtime. The freshman finished a feed from Ryan Bottrill to beat Chauvette after sustained pressure with Zacher pulled for the extra attacker.
Ryan Shostak gave Brown the overtime win 2:16 into overtime, finishing a rebound from Ethan Mistry's initial shot for his first goal of the season.
The Bears held Union to just three shots on goal over the third and overtime periods.
