Men's Crew Set for 2023 Eastern Sprints

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After a six-week stretch of racing and an added week to prepare, the No. 10 Brown men's crew team is ready for championship season beginning with the 76th EARC Men's Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., on Sunday.

Out of the 14 teams competing against the Bears at the Eastern Sprints, six are ranked in the top ten in the latest IRCA/IRA Heavyweight Varsity 8+ Poll: No. 2 Yale, No. 4 Syracuse, No. 5 Dartmouth, No. 6 Princeton, No. 7 Harvard, and No. 9 Northeastern.
Brown's Second Varsity 8 is ranked No. 2 in the same poll with two first-place votes.

The Bears will start the day with four morning heats beginning with the 4V8 race at 8:00 a.m. against Yale, Princeton, BU, Northeastern, Penn and Holy Cross. The 3V8 race begins at 8:27 a.m. with the Bears paired against Harvard, Princeton, Navy, BU and Northeastern.

The Varsity 8 race will take place at 8:36 a.m. for Brown with Yale, Northeastern, Georgetown and Navy also in that race. The 2V8 race will begin at 11:09 a.m. with Brown facing off against Princeton, Northeastern, Cornell and Holy Cross.
The 5V8 competes in the first Grand Final at 1:30 p.m. and are matched up against Yale, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Navy and Cornell.

The top-two teams in each heat from the Varsity 8, 2V8 and 3V8 will face off in the Grand Final in the afternoon. The top three teams in each of the 4V8 heats will move on to the Grand Final.

Brown has finished no worse than fifth in the Rowe Cup in every Eastern Sprints since 1997, including wins in 2000, 2009, 2013 and 2014. The Varsity 8 boat has earned gold three times since 2000, winning in 2000, 2009 and 2012. It also has had three silver and five bronze finishes during that time span.
