Men's Crew Takes Home a Silver and Bronze at Eastern Sprints

WORCESTER, Mass. – Brown men's crews raced at the 76th EARC Men's Eastern Sprints on Sunday at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

Medaling for the Bears were the Third Varsity 8 with a silver and the Second Varsity 8 with a bronze. Brown finished fourth in the team standings with 30 points behind Yale (36), Princeton (33) and Harvard (33), while finishing in front of Syracuse (28), Dartmouth (27), BU (16), Northeastern (14), Penn (12), Cornell (11), Navy (5), Wisconsin (5), Georgetown (5), Holy Cross (1) and Columbia (0).

Bruno's Fourth Varsity 8 and Fifth Varsity 8 each finished in fifth place, while the First Varsity 8 crossed the finish line in sixth.

"I was really proud of the effort that the team put in today," said Paul Cooke, Men's Crew Head Coaching Chair. "Making the Grand Final in the 1V8 this morning was a big step for the program. Making the Grand Final in all five 8's was an important step and we saw a lot of great performances. I'm pleased with the efforts and energy that everybody on the team has brought, and we felt like the athletes have invested themselves and they're racing well, and we look forward to going to the IRA."

All five boats came out of their morning heats to advance to their respective Grand Final. First it was the 4V8 with a third-place finish (5:51.081), then the 3V8 won its heat (5:41.353) and the 1V8 finished second with a strong race in its heat (5:30.310). Brown's 2V8 then came in second (5:37.750) to finish the heats.

The best Grand Final performance of the day belonged to 3V8, who took home the silver medal with a time of 5:39.554. Yale finished first 5:37.312, while the Bears outlasted Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton and Syracuse.

Bruno's 2V8 finished third for the bronze medal with a time of 5:36.769, ahead of Harvard, Princeton and Syracuse. Harvard won the gold (5:33.639) and Princeton was in second (5:35.779).
