Gottam's seven-plus inning outing and eight strikeouts were both career-highs.
Freshman Mika Petersen combined for four hits, two runs scored and an RBI on the day while extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Freshman Mark Henshon went 4-for-6 with two runs and a walk while making his first two career starts at second base.
Freshman DJ Dillehay extended his hitting streak to 12 games by picking up two hits in game one, and another hit in game two.
Sophomore Jared Johnson picked up three hits and two RBIs in game one, and senior Derian Morphew added two hits, three runs and three RBIs in game one.
Senior Bobby Olsen earned the win on the mound in game one, tossing 4.1 strong innings of relief while allowing five hits and striking out seven. Seppings struck out the side in the ninth inning of game one, then came back and got the final six outs in game two with three strikeouts to earn the save.
GAME ONE
The Bears used a seven-run third inning to put up 12 runs in game one, their second-highest total of the season to go with 13 hits. Brown jumped in front early after Morphew singled leading off and came in on a grounder by Dillehay. Cornell answered back with two runs in the bottom of the first after a hit by pitch, two walks and a two-run single, all after two outs.
Brown took the lead with seven unearned runs in the top of the third. After a single by Dillehay and a dropped fly ball put two men on, Johnson grounded a single back into center field to plate both runners and put the Bears in front for good. Johnson scored four batters later on a throwing error, before Morphew extended the lead with a three-run, bases clearing double down the left field line to push it to 7-2. Petersen followed with an RBI single to cap the inning with an 8-2 Brown lead.
Cornell got two back on a home run in the bottom of the third, but Brown responded in the fourth when Dillehay doubled, and later scored on a sac fly by Ryan Marra to make it 9-4.
The Bears pushed across three more unearned runs in the seventh thanks to a throwing error, and a sac fly by Dillehay. Cornell used a walk and a single to plate another run in the eighth inning on a ground ball, but that was as close as the Big Red managed to get as Seppings came on to strike out the side on 13 pitches in the ninth inning.
GAME TWO
After posting one hit through the first three innings, Brown broke through for the game's only run in the fourth. Petersen, Dillehay and Jacob Burley started the frame with consecutive singles to load the bases with nobody out before Nathan Brasher used a fielder's choice ground ball to plate Peterson for a run.
Gottam and Seppings made the run stand up as Gottam pitched into the eighth inning, striking out eight batters without allowing a walk, and scattering eight hits. After allowing a leadoff single to start the eighth, Seppings entered the game and struck out the next three batters in order to end the inning and strand the tying runner on second base. He then retired the side in order in the ninth for his second save of the season.
Overall, Cornell outhit Brown 8-6 in the nightcap and stranded seven runners on base, while the Bears left five.
Brown will go for the sweep in the series finale on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for noon on ESPN+.
