Strong Pitching, Timely Hitting Helps Baseball Finish off Sweep of Cornell

McDonough went 5.2 strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits and tied his career-high with eight strikeouts. His eight K's matched his career-high from his first start of the 2022 season at Memphis. He recorded eight consecutive outs via the strikeout from the third to the fifth innings to account for all of his K's.
Carter Rasmussen tossed 1.2 innings of relief and Jack Seppings locked down the save with 1.2 scoreless innings.
The performance on the mound capped a dominant weekend of pitching for the Bears, who struck out 37 batters and issued just 10 walks over the three games.
Junior Charles Crawford delivered a key two-run triple in the seventh inning to help extend the Bears' lead. Freshman Mika Petersen extended his hitting streak to 11 games with two hits, a run and an RBI. Freshman DJ Dillehay extended his hitting streak to 12 games and scored a run.
Brown put the leadoff man on in each of the first four innings, finally breaking through for three runs while batting around in the third. After consecutive walks to open the third, Petersen blooped a single into left field to score Mark Henshon. Three batters later, Logan Meusy drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run, and Petersen then scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0 and forced Cornell to go to the bullpen.
That's now an 11-game hitting streak for Petersen who plates Henshon with the single in the third to put Brown on top!

McDonough retired the side in order in the first and third and fourth innings, picking up shutdown innings with two K's in the third and striking out the side in the fourth.
Cornell got on the board with a leadoff single and two-out triple in the sixth to chase McDonough and get into the Brown bullpen and cut it to 3-1.
Brown pushed the lead to 5-1 in the seventh inning thanks to a big two-out, two-run triple by Crawford. Dillehay started the inning with a double and Jacob Burley followed with a walk to set the table for Crawford.

Cornell got one run back in the eighth after back-to-back walks and a sac fly to cut the Brown lead to 5-2 before Seppings came in and induced a fly out and ground out to end the inning, then struck out two in the ninth for his third save of the season.
Brown will return home to Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium for a non-league matchup on Tuesday afternoon, April 11 against URI at 3:30 p.m.
