No. 10 Men's Crew Comes Away with Two Wins at No. 4 Princeton
4/29/2023 5:15:00 PM | Men's Crew
PRINCETON, N.J. – No. 10 Brown men's crew picked up wins at Second and Third Varsity, but it was the fourth-ranked Princeton crew coming away with the Content Cup with a First Varsity 8 victory, along with first place at Fourth and Fifth Varsity on Lake Carnegie Saturday morning.
"We've finished a six-week stretch of very intense racing and we now start the final preparations for the championships," said Paul Cooke, the Men's Crew Head Coaching Chair. "Each week we've had close, intense competition in all the events and today was another terrific day of racing, starting with the Fifth Varsity. Our victories in the Second and Third Varsity were important and those crews continue to show great leadership. It's clear that all our crews are adapting, getting stronger and faster."
Â
Brown's 2V8 won by just over two seconds, posting a time of 5:56.5, ahead of Princeton's Second Varsity time of 5:58.7. The 3V8 was victorious as well, clocking a time of 6:04.6 to Princeton's 6:07.1.
Â
It was Princeton coming in first for the Content Cup as the Tigers' 1V8 finished in 5:42.9 to the Bears' 5:46.0. The 4V8 went to Princeton (6:09.3) ahead of Brown (6:12.1) as did the 5V8 with Princeton at 6:14.5 to Brown's 6:16.7.
"Princeton took the Content Cup for winning the Varsity race but our Varsity raced well, improved their execution and came away with more confidence. It's a very challenging schedule but we've learned a lot and we know what we have to work on. The competition at Eastern Sprints will be demanding. Our seniors have really set a great standard. Every one of them has taken on the challenge and put in a tremendous effort."
