Baseball Falls to Yale in Series Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team dropped its series-opening game to Yale on Friday afternoon by a score of 16-2 at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium.
Senior Jacob Burley went 3-for-3 with an RBI and extended his on-base streak to 14 games. Freshman DJ Dillehay extended his hitting streak to eight games. Senior Derian Morphew logged his second career pitching appearance, tossing a scoreless ninth inning. Yale outhit Brown by a 14-8 margin.
Yale struck for a big inning right out of the gate scoring five runs on five hits and two hit-by-pitches to take the 5-0, first inning lead. Brown got a pair of runs back in the bottom of the inning on three hits, with Morphew scoring on a passed ball, and Burley singling home a run.
The Bulldogs got both runs right back in the second inning, and tacked on two more in the third to take a 9-2 lead after three innings.
Yale tacked on two more in the fifth without the benefit of a hit, added two more in the seventh, and three in the eighth.
Yale's Colton Shaw earned the win, firing 8.0 shutout innings of relief with 12 strikeouts, allowing five hits, one walk and two hit batters.
As a team, Brown allowed season highs in runs, hits, walks, hit batters, and wild pitches.
Brown and Yale will conclude their three-game series this Sunday, April 2 with a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m. on ESPN+.
