
Women's Lacrosse Posts Dominant Ivy Win Over Columbia

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team took down Columbia 19-8 Friday evening at Stevenson-Pincince Field to improve to 2-0 in Ivy League play and 5-3 on the season. Columbia falls to 3-6 on the year and 0-3 in league action.
Annie Burton led Brown with a career-high six goals and seven points. Leah Caputo posted six points (2G, 4A) and Claire Jeschke had five (2G, 3A). Other multi-point scorers include Greta Criqui (3G, 1A) and Maddie Joyce (2G).
Julia Ford, Nathalia Ahn, Alyssa Levy, and Kiki Tormey all scored once, while Paige Gillen, Jackie Mason, and Alexandra Bowman all recorded on assist.
Emmie Lau had a career-high 13 draw controls, while also recording four caused turnovers and four ground balls. As a team, the Bears had 18 draws to Columbia's 11, caused 10 turnovers to the Lions' one, and grabbed 20 ground balls compared to Columbia's nine.
In goal, Claire Mahoney got the start and the victory. Margaret Woodberry made two saves and Elissa Byrne saw her first collegiate action.
The Bears opened the game with a pair of quick strikes and led 4-2 after Columbia got their second of the game with 1:04 remaining in the opening quarter.
From there, Brown switched it into another gear and rattled off nine straight goals and 12 of the next 13 to lead 16-3 with 3:50 remaining in the third.
Despite the Lions scoring the next three, Brown never let the deficit get back to single digits thanks to Ahn's strike with just under nine minutes remaining and Tormey's first of her career.
Levy added the final goal of the game for either side with 30 seconds to go, also the first of her career.
Brown will play its final nonconference game of the season next Monday, March 27 at Notre Dame before the homestretch of five straight Ivy contests begins the following Saturday.
