Brown tallied a season-high 14 hits in game one, but a trio of unearned runs and a six-run fifth proved to be the difference. Peter Dubie tossed 3.0 scoreless innings of relief with just one hit and four strikeouts, and Ty Harris tossed 2.0 hitless innings of relief.
Senior Bobby Olsen earned his second straight win in game two, allowing two earned runs and five hits over 6.0 innings. Five Bears had multi-hit games, with Jacob Burley netting three hits in game two, while sophomore Jared Johnson blasted a grand slam and had five RBIs in the nightcap.
Between the two games, senior Ray Sass was 4-for-7 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored. Burley was 5-for-10 with a run and RBI, and Nathan Brasher and Mika Petersen each totaled four hits. Freshman DJ Dillehay went 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored, including two hits in his first career start in game two.
GAME ONE
Brown jumped on the board with three runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning, stringing together three straight hits with two outs. Petersen lined a single to right field, Sass followed with an RBI double to plate a run, and Derian Morphew followed by launching a two-run double to the right-center field wall to score two more runs to give Brown the early three-run edge.
Bryant answered right back with three runs of their own in the top of the third on an error and two singles. The Bears retied things in the bottom of the inning on a fielder's choice by Brasher that scored Gunner Boree.
Bryant broke the game open with six runs (four earned) in the fifth inning, courtesy of four hits and pair of Brown errors to take a 9-4 lead.
The Bears clawed back with two runs in the ninth when Dillehay sent an RBI double down the left field line, and came around to score moments later on a single by Ryan Marra, bringing the score to its 9-6 final.
GAME TWO
Bryant broke through for single runs in the first and third innings on two hits in each frame to take a 2-0 lead in the third.
The Bears exploded in the bottom of the third for eight runs on five hits, sending 11 batters to the plate.
Dillehay and Sass started the frame with back-to-back walks, and Morphew followed with the Bears first hit, a line drive triple to deep right field that plated two runs to tie the score. Petersen then put Brown in front by lining an RBI double off the pitcher. Two batters later, Burley took a pitch to the opposite field for an RBI single to plate Petersen and give the Bears the lead for good. Following a walk by Marra, Burley drove in Petersen with a line drive single to the opposite field. Two batters later with the bases loaded, Johnson stepped up with the bases loaded and jumped on a 2-0 fastball and launched it over the right field wall for a grand slam to broke the game wide open at 8-2.
Dillehay helped Brown tack on another run with an RBI single to left field in the fifth. Olsen finished off his outing with back-to-back strikeouts with two men on in the sixth, and Brown added another insurance run in the bottom of the inning courtesy of a Petersen single that plated Sass to make it a 10-2 game.
Bryant got one run back in the seventh before Johnson added his fifth RBI of the day in the eighth with a sac fly that scored Marra.
Brown and Bryant will finish off their four-game series on Wednesday, March 22 at Murray Stadium. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
