
Baseball Bested by Bryant 5-1 to Close Out Series

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team dropped the final game of its four-game series to Bryant on Wednesday afternoon, falling by a score of 5-1. The Bulldogs outhit Brown by a 5-4 margin.
Brown put the leadoff batter on base in five of the first six innings and stranded nine runners over that span. Bryant pitching retired 10 of the last 11 Brown batters to close the game. In total, Brown left 10 runners on base and went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
Freshman shortstop DJ Dillehay drove in the Bears only run with an RBI single in the fourth, extending his hitting streak to three games. Senior outfielder Derian Morphew reached base three times via a double and two walks to run his hitting streak to four games.
Bryant got on the board in the top of the first, turning a one-out walk into a run on an RBI single. The Bulldogs took advantage of another walk in the second inning, followed by a two-run homer to left field by Lewis Barnum to take a 3-0 lead. They added another run with a two-out single in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.
The Bears put the leadoff man on base in three of the first four innings, stranding one runner in scoring position in the first, and two more in the third without scoring. Brown broke through with a run in the bottom of the fourth after Jacob Burley led off with a walk and Jared Johnson followed with a single. Dillehay then stepped up and knocked an RBI single to left field to plate Burley and get Brown on the board.
Brown loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth following back-to-back walks, but once again was unable to score.
Bryant tacked on another insurance run in the eighth inning on a leadoff solo shot to left field by Caden Dulin to make it 5-1.
Due to the anticipated weather forecast for this weekend, the Bears will return to action this Friday afternoon at Columbia in their Ivy League opener. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+
