
Women's Fencing Closes Competition at 2023 NCAA Regional Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Casey Chan finished fourth in the saber and Sofia Yee-Wadsworth took seventh in the épée at the 2023 NCAA Northeast Regional Championships Sunday at Harvard University.
"Today's tournament is by far the most challenging tournament on our schedule, and Brown Women's Fencing stood tall and fought like champions the whole day, landing Casey and Sofie in the final rounds of their events," said head coach Alex Ripa. "I'm extremely proud of the whole team and of their amazing season - our most successful to date."
Chan entered the Regional Championship as the ninth-seeded saber competitor. Chan avoided the first round of eliminations with her seed position and picked up three victories to advance to the Round of 12.
From there, Chan picked up five wins with a +4 rating in total strikes to finish fourth overall.
Rebecca Whang finished 13th overall in the saber to just miss out on the Round of 12 and Alexandra Tzou finished 16th. Alyssa Sun rounded out the saber competitors in 38th.
Yee-Wadsworth began the competition as the 13th-seeded competitor and advanced to the Round of 12 with four victories.
In the Round of 12, Yee-Wadsworth tallied five match wins to move up to seventh overall for her best career finish.
Arianna Baffa finished 25th in the épée and Dasha Smuk finished 32nd overall.
In the foil, Anika Breker finished 16th and captain Anisha Kasi took 21st overall. Grace Li and Samantha Chon rounded out the Bruno competitors in 29th and 42nd, respectively.
The selections for the 2023 NCAA Championship in Durham, North Carolina will be released on Tuesday on NCAA.com. The 2023 NCAA Championships are scheduled to begin on Thursday (Mar. 23) and continue through Sunday (Mar. 26) on the campus of Duke University.
