DURHAM, N.C. – Brown fencers Casey Chan and Sofia Yee-Wadsworth closed out the 2022-23 season at the 2023 NCAA Championships at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina over the weekend.

Chan was also named the recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 Award, given in recognition of the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
"I'm extremely proud of Casey and Sofie for their hard work over the season and their amazing effort over a weekend of difficult fencing alongside their peers, the nation's best and brightest!" said head coach Alex Ripa, "One of the most demanding fencing events, the NCAA Championships is always a grueling challenge - congratulations to them both for representing Brown so well!
"And, big congratulations to Casey for winning the Elite 90 Award for fencing - Brown Fencing has both brains AND brawn! The weekend was a wonderful finish to one of our best seasons to date!"
Both fencers competed in the first three rounds on Saturday before the fourth and fifth rounds on Sunday. Both Chan and Yee-Wadsworth competed in a bout against the 23 other competitors in their respective weapon class.
