
Baseball Gets in Win Column in Split with Penn State; Sunday’s Game Canceled

Senior Ryan Marra went 5-for-8 with four walks and four RBIs, reaching base in nine of his 12 plate appearances in the doubleheader, and clubbed his third home run of the weekend.
Sophomore Nathan Brasher had four hits on the day, including three in game two. Senior Jacob Burley added four hits and a pair of runs.
Sunday's final game of the weekend series has been canceled due to expected inclement weather.
GAME ONE
The Nittany Lions walked it off for the second straight game in the bottom of the 12th inning of game one. The two teams combined for six home runs in the opener with all of the Nittany Lions runs coming via the long ball.
Brown got strong pitching from its three hurlers in game one, with starter Santhosh Gottam pitching into the seventh with four earned runs with six strikeouts. Sophomore Jack Seppings dominated in his career-long 3.2 innings of relief, allowing just one infield single with five strikeouts.
Marra had three hits and a walk including a two-run homer in game one. Burley and Ray Sass added two hits apiece.
The Nittany Lions jumped on the board with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first. Brown answered to tie it in the top of the second, loading the bases with one out thanks to a walk, and singles by Burley and Mika Petersen, before Derian Morphew tied it on a two-out single up the middle.
Brown took their first lead in the third when Gunner Boree led off with a walk, then hustled around from second to score on a wild pitch with two outs. Penn State tied it up with another solo homer in the bottom of the inning to make it a 2-2 game after three innings, then took the lead in the bottom of the fourth with another solo jack.

Brown answered right back to retake the lead in the fifth. Reece Rappoli led off with a single and two batters later, Marra greeted the lefty reliver by towering a long home run down the right field line to put Brown back ahead 5-4.
Penn State tagged their fourth solo homer of the game leading off the sixth inning to retie the score 4-4.
Seppings came on in relief and got the last two outs of the seventh via a groundout and strikeout to strand two runners. He retired the first eight batters that he faced before PSU put two on in the 10th before he induced a ground out to end the inning. Brasher provided a big leaping catch against the wall in right field to help keep PSU off the board in the frame.
After Brown loaded the bases with one out in the 12th and couldn't score, Penn State walked it off with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning for the game one win.
GAME TWO
Brown pounded out four runs on four hits in the third inning to score all the runs they would need. After consecutive walks to start the inning, Marra lofted a double done the left field line to plate two runs, Brasher tagged an RBI double to right field, and Petersen knocked one through the left side to plate one more to extend the lead.

Olsen allowed no hits and two walks through the first three innings. Penn State got one run back in the fifth on a pair of singles.
Olsen went the first five innings for Brown, allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts.
PSU got two more runs in the seventh on a two-out, two-run triple to cut it to 4-3, with the tying run thrown out at the plate (Morphew-Sass-Burley) to end the inning.
Dubie entered with a man on in the eighth inning and promptly got a 1-6-3 double play and fly out to end the inning. He then struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth inning to lock down his first save.

With Sunday's series finale now canceled, the Bears will return to Rhode Island and welcome Bryant to Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium for the home opener next Saturday, March 18. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 11:30 a.m.
