Iginla's Hat Trick Ignites Women's Hockey to 4-1 Win at RPI

TROY, N.Y. – A hat trick from freshman Jade Iginla and a goal by junior Maya Mangiafico ignited the Brown women's hockey team to a 4-1 victory Friday night at RPI.
Â
The Bears (7-16-1, 5-12-0 ECAC) have surpassed last season's win total and have matched the 2016-17 team for the most wins in the last 11 years. The Engineers (9-19-1, 4-12-1 ECAC) see their three-game winning streak come to an end.
Â
Junior goalie Kaley Doyle finished with 33 saves for her sixth win of the season. Iginla's hat trick now has her at 14 goals on the year and it's the first three-goal game by a Brown player since 2018.
Â
Iginla took full advantage of Brown's second shot of the night. Freshman India McDadi sent a pass through her legs to Iginla, who fired home her first goal of the night with 9:51 to go in the first. Doyle finished the period with 12 saves to keep the score, 1-0.
Â
It only took 18 seconds into the second for Iginla to strike again. This time she won the race to the puck from a slick McDadi pass and snuck it past the goalie to make it a 2-0 game. Mangiafico then scored off a rebound from junior Cassidy Piersiak and sophomore Olivia Williamson for her first goal of the season to extend the lead to 3-0Â at the 9:02 mark of the period.
Â
RPI got its only goal on a power play with 55 seconds left in the second when junior Ellie Kaiser scored from classmate Taylor Larson and senior Marah Wagner.
Â
Iginla, who was recently named to the NCA National Rookie of the Year Watch List, completed the hat trick when she deflected in junior Cassidy Piersiak's long shot with just over a minute left to complete the 4-1 victory.
Â
Brown is back in action on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Union.
