HAMDEN, Conn. – The top-ranked Quinnipiac Bobcats (26-3-3, 18-2-0 ECAC) closed their home slate with a 5-2 win over the Brown Bears (9-16-2, 5-13-2 ECAC) Saturday night at M&T Bank Arena.
"Quinnipiac is an outstanding hockey team, they're number 1 in the country for a reason, they've won 26 games," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "They're able to do some things in terms of graduate students and transfers that unfortunately we can't do. They have a veteran hockey team with several guys on the team that have played over 150 college hockey games.
"That being said, I liked the way we worked, I liked the way we battled. I thought we battled and against an excellent hockey team everyone needs to have their 'A' game. I thought some of the guys did but I didn't think enough of us had that. We'll go back to work and get ready for a home weekend and continue to push and build momentum as we enter the playoffs."
Zach Metsa put the Bobcats ahead early with his sixth goal of the season 3:08 into the opening period. Metsa wired a shot from the blue line through traffic to beat Brown goaltender Jacob Zacharewicz (31 saves).

Ethan de Jong, playing in his 175th career game, made it 3-1 Bobcats with a short-handed goal 4:09 into the second period. Skyler Brind'Amour and Iivari Rasanen assisted on the goal.
