Gymnastics Heads to LIU for President’s Day Matinee

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After three straight weekends at home, Brown women's gymnastics will hit the road for the first time in February for a President's Day matinee quad meet at LIU on Monday. The quad meet will also feature Bridgeport and Towson.

The Bears have defeated each of the last five opponents they have faced over the last three weekends at home. Brown posted a season-high 48.850 on floor in last weekend's dual meet against Springfield, and has posted its two highest scores of the season the last two weekends on beam, including a program record 48.775 in a dual meet against SCSU on February 5. Brown has continued to raise the bar and set new season-highs on floor in each meet this season.
Sophomore Julia Bedell tied the program's floor record at 9.925 last weekend, marking the fourth time a Brown gymnast has hit that mark, joining Olympian Alicia Sacramone, Caroline Morant and Danielle Hoffman. Bedell also won on vault (9.825), and her efforts earned her GEC Specialist of the Week honors, her second GEC weekly award this season.
Also highlighting last weekend, senior Abby Contello took home first place on bars, was runner-up on vault, and tied for third on beam, and Lauren Kramer set two career-highs on vault and floor. Overall, Brown swept the podium on vault, bars and floor, while sweeping the top two spots and having two gymnast shared a four-way tie for third on beam.
