
Gymnastics Set to Compete for Title at the 2026 GEC Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown gymnastics team is set to compete for a conference championship this Saturday as the Bears are the No. 3 seed in the GEC Championships, which will be hosted by Cornell. As a top four seed, Brown will compete in the evening session starting at 5 p.m. alongside Cornell, Penn and Yale. The bottom four seeds of Southern Connecticut State, Bridgeport, West Chester and William & Mary will compete in the afternoon session at noon.

A DOZEN AWARDS
Eight Brown gymnasts combined to earn 12 All-GEC awards, based upon their National Qualifying Scores from the regular season.
PEAKING AT THE RIGHT TIME
Brown is entering the GEC Championships on the heels of three straight meets of top 10 scores in program history, all registering 194.750 or higher.
The Bears also posted the third-highest beam score (49.025) in program history on March 15. All told, Brown has posted five of the top 20 team scores in program history this season, along with the No. 8 score on bars, and the No. 3 and No. 7 scores on beam.
FORD HITTING HER STRIDE
Junior Emily Ford has jumped into the No. 1 spot on beam in the GEC, having scored a 9.875 in each of the last two meets. Her NQS (9.815) is tied for 14th in the region.
SENIOR LEADERSHIP
Senior Sophia Dewar has been a consistent performer all season for Brown. She has tied her career-high of 9.875 on floor in three of the last four meets. She set a new career-high of 9.850 to win on vault on February 13 at Temple, which ties for the fifth best vault score in program history.
She ranks second in the GEC on floor (9.870), and is one of two Brown gymnasts to rank in the top 25 in the GEC on three events.
WHITESIDE'S BREAKOUT SEASON
Sophomore Addy Whiteside ranks in the top 25 in the GEC in three events. She has set or tied at least one career-high in four of the last five meets, most recently tying her career-highs on bars and beam on March 15 at Michigan State.
STORY OF THE NQS
Brown has posted the five highest National Qualifying Scores in program history over the last five seasons. The team's current national ranking of 51st would be the highest in program history to end a season, surpassing the previous benchmark of 53rd in 2016.
