Gymnastics Takes Third in President’s Day Quad Meet on Long Island

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Brown women's gymnastics team topped the 194-point mark for the third straight meet on Monday afternoon, taking third place in a quad meet against LIU, Towson and Bridgeport.
The Bears finished with 194.125 points, their third-highest total of the season. Towson finished in first place with their score of 196.325, followed by host LIU at 195.775. GEC foe Bridgeport finished in fourth with a season-high mark of 191.800.
Senior Abby Contello led Brown on vault, bars and beam, while setting season-highs on both bars and beam. Sophomore Julia Bedell scored 9.900 to win on floor, where the team posted a season-high. The Bears also set a season-high on vault.
Brown started the meet off on beam with a score of 48.200. Contello led the Bears with a career-high score of 9.8500, tying for sixth overall. Lauren Kramer and Liza Marcus followed at 9.725, while Lauren McKeown tallied a season-best 9.650.
Next on floor, Brown topped the 49.000 mark for the first time this season at 49.125, falling just shy of the school record (49.200). Bedell won the event by turning in a 9.900, tying for the fifth-highest score in program history. Carolanne Van Zandt scored 9.850 to finish fifth, Maya Davis scored 9.825 and Sophia Dewar set a new career-high at 9.800.
The Bears put up their highest score of the season on vault at 48.875, with Contello, Angela Xing, Bedell and Umi El Mammann all tying for the team lead at 9.775. Xing's mark was her highest of the season and El Mammann's set a career-high.
Finishing the meet on bars with a score of 47.925, Brown was led by Contello in fourth place at 9.825, setting a new season-high. Ella Poley and Jasmine Lee each scored 9.725, and McKeown posted a 9.700.
The Bears will return to action this Sunday, February 26 when they will battle for an Ivy Championship when they host the Ivy Classic at the Pizzitola Sports Center against Cornell, Penn and Yale. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
