Men's Hockey Takes 4-1 Road win Over Stonehill
12/3/2023 6:53:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Brown Bears (4-6-1, 2-5-0 ECAC) tallied the final four goals to take a 4-1 road win over the Stonehill Skyhawks (0-16-0, Independent) Sunday evening at Bridgewater Ice Arena.
"I was proud of the way the guys battled and played; it wasn't a great start. It's hard to be behind in the first 20 seconds of a game then find yourselves short handed for basically the rest of the period. I thought the penalty kill did an incredible job and we played a great second and third. I thought we won a lot of puck races, puck battles, we were around the net a lot and really limited what they had. And when they did get a pretty good chance there to close the gap Shea made a tremendous breakaway save.
"Overall, I was proud of them and talked about being able to finish games, and I thought we had a pretty good third."
The Skyhawks struck early as Frank Ireland found the back of the net just 16 seconds into the opening period.
The Bears killed off three penalties before the end of the first with one unsuccessful power play opportunity.
Nick Traggio broke up a Stonehill rush and jumped into the offensive play to pick up his first career goal halfway through the second. Ryan Bottrill's initial shot was saved by Dylan Meilun (28 saves) before Traggio found the rebound.
Ryan Bottrill gave the Bears a 2-1 lead 13:42 into the second period off an offensive zone faceoff win. Bottrill wheeled around the net on his forehand and centered the puck to the slot, where it deflected off a Skyhawk defenseman and into the net. Max Scott picked up the assist with the faceoff win.
Tyler Shea (17 saves) made the save of the game halfway through the third period, turning aside a breakaway chance from Ireland to preserve the one-goal lead.
Brett Bliss pushed Brown's lead to 3-1 during a 4-on-4 stretch 12:06 into the third period. Tony Andreozzi moved the puck to Ryan St. Louis and drove to the net as St. Louis moved the puck across the zone to Bliss for the junior's first goal of the season.
Bliss added his second of the game in the final seconds from the Brown defensive zone into the empty Stonehill net to push the final to 4-1.
