
Yale Pulls Away from Brown Football, 36-17

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Brown grabbed three interceptions in the game from Isaiah Reed, Treyvon Hobbs and Cooper DeVeau.
- Reed took his interception back 35 yards for a touchdown to pull the Bears within 22-17 early in the third quarter. It was his third pick in the last two games and fourth of the season, the most in the Ivy League.
- Saturday marked the first time since 2011 that Brown registered three interceptions in back-to-back games.
- Yale's defense came up with four takeaways in the game.
- Three of the Bulldogs' touchdowns came on plays of 35 yards of more.
- Yale outgained Brown 410-334, and flipped the field with three kick returns for 129 yards, netting at least 35 yards on each.
- Senior Ethan Royer had a career-high 10 tackles, including one sack.
- Senior Isaiah Gamble had eight tackles, including 1.0 tackles for loss.
- Senior Graham Walker led the Bears with a season-high 87 yards receiving on five catches.
- Five Bears had at least 30 yards receiving, with senior Ian Franzoni totaling 37.
- Senior Wes Rockett had 30 yards receiving and a rushing touchdown.
- Senior quarterback Jake Willcox was 20-for-38 passing for 245 yards and added 22 yards on the ground.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a Brown fumble deep in their own territory on their opening possession, Yale took over the eight-yard line and scored two plays later a on a four-yard run by Joshua Pitsenberger. Winston Jordan blocked the PAT to keep it a 6-0 game.
- After a 53-yard drive stalled at the five-yard line, Maron connected from 23-yards out on a field goal that brought the score to 6-3 at the 5:51 mark.
- Brown took its first lead 10-6, with 2:01 to go in the opening quarter when Rockett took a pitch and ran around the right end to the pylon for the score. The drive was spurred by a career-long 33-yard completion down the middle to Ty Pezza.
- Yale quickly answered to retake the lead in the opening moments of the second quarter on a 41-yard pass from Grooms to Mason Tipton to go up 13-10.
- With 9:35 left until halftime, Yale took advantage of another Brown fumble and tacked on three more with a 21-yard field goal to push the edge to 16-10.
- Brown's defense came away with two huge interceptions in the end zone on consecutive possessions in the second quarter. DeVeau came away with the first one on a deep ball, and Elias Archie deflected a ball up into the air on the next possession that was picked by Hobbs to help keep it a six-point game headed into halftime.
- Yale struck right out of the gate in the second half with a 47-yard kick return and a 45-yard touchdown pass from Grooms to Tre Petersen to push the lead to 22-10 following a failed two-point conversion.
- Reed jumped the route and grabbed a critical 35-yard pick-six on the first play of Yale's ensuing possession to pull the Bears back within 22-17 at the 12:46 mark.
- From there, the Bulldogs put the game away with back-to-back touchdowns on a 35-yard pass play on 3rd-and-19, then used a blocked punt deep in Bears territory to set up a 9-yard pass to go up 36-17 at the 6:41 mark of the third quarter.
Brown will hit the road for the final time in 2023 next Saturday, November 11 when it travels to Columbia to take on the Lions. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
