NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Brown men's soccer has clinched the inaugural Ivy League tournament, hosted by top-seeded Penn, and completed an unbeaten conference regular season after its scoreless draw at Yale on Saturday afternoon.
With the tie, the Bears finish the regular season with a 5-4-7 record and 2-0-5 in the Ivy League for the fourth seed in the upcoming tournament. It is the first unbeaten Ivy season since 2007. Yale moves to 8-5-3 and 3-1-3 and will be the three seed in the tournament.
Senior goalkeeper Hudson Blatteis notched another clean sheet. This time finishing with two saves for his sixth shutout in eight starts. Brown has not lost in its last 11 matches and has not allowed a goal in five-straight games.
"Really proud of the team tonight, it was a really tight game and Yale is a good team," said Chase Wileman, Friends of Brown Men's Soccer Head Coaching Chair. "They kick the ball at you for 90 minutes and I thought we handled that well. We dealt with direct play and we battled and found times to play soccer. I thought we were a little unlucky today that the final pass or last movement or the shot didn't work to get the ball in the net."
The Bears finished with four shots on goal compared to two for the Bulldogs and tallied six corner kicks to Yale's three. All four shots on goal came in the second half with two from senior Kojo Dadzie, and one each by senior Charlie Adams and freshman Lorenzo Amaral.
"All-in-all we came here and got a result and the staff and I are excited to coach this team another week and continue to get better," said Wileman. "We're really proud of the team, the program and everyone involved with Brown men's soccer. We have a post season game which hasn't happened in a while so we're excited to compete and play another game."
Brown will face Penn in the semifinal round of the Ivy League tournament on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
