Career Firsts Lift Men's Soccer Over Stonehill

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Levi Pillar and sophomore Dylan Ellis each sent home their first-career goals and freshman Carlo Brown notched his second to lift the Brown men's soccer team over Stonehill, 3-1, Tuesday night at home.
It was the first-career start and first win for senior goalkeeper Hudson Blatteis.
The Bears improve to 3-4-2 overall, while the Skyhawks drop to 1-5-4 on the season.
"Even though we weren't at our best today, it's pleasing to come away with a win," said Scott Bratt, Zisson Family Assistant Coaching Chair. "A little disappointing to give away the clean sheet in the 89th minute. We're going to get back at it and our training is going to be high intensity. We're looking forward to playing Harvard this weekend in another important Ivy League game, so the response from the boys is going to be good."
The first half was a back-and-forth battle. The Bears controlled the pace in the early moments of the match. Stonehill later had opportunities midway through the half and Blatteis came away with three saves.
Brown struck in the 42nd minute when junior Harri Sprofera found senior Scott Gustafson, who sent a perfect cross to Pillar for the header to make it 1-0.
Both sides battled for position in the second half and Brown capitalized with the insurance goal. Ellis chased down a ball that was played off a Stonehill defender, went one-on-one with the keeper, and fired home the goal to make it 2-0 in the 72nd minute.
Later in the 86th minute, sophomore Adolfo Diaz tapped the ball behind to junior Keegan Walpole, who set up Carlo Brown for the strong header to give the Bears a 3-0 lead. It was the first-career points for both Diaz and Walpole.
Stonehill would get on the board in the 89th minute, but it was too late for the Skyhawks.
Brown returns to the pitch at Harvard at 4 p.m. for another key Ivy League match.
