NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Brown men's soccer team (6-7-2, 2-4-1 Ivy) fell 1-0 to the Yale Bulldogs (3-9-3, 2-4-1 Ivy) in their final game of the regular season on Saturday night.
"Disappointing night tonight, and disappointing season overall. It hasn't been good enough and it is my responsibility, which I own," Friends of Brown Men's Soccer Head Coaching Chair Chase Wileman said. "We will get this right."
"Thank you to the team and especially the seniors. Also, thank you to the coaching and support staff."
The Bears and Bulldogs battled throughout the first half, with both teams unable to get on the board. Yale held a slight edge in shots with eight, to Brown's six as the first half came to a close.
In the 53rd minute junior defender Iyke Dafe was issued a red card, leaving the Bears with only 10 players for the rest of the match.
Senior forward Jamin Gogo Peters sent a shot towards Yale's goal, but was unable to capitalize on the opportunity.
In the 80th minute a foul was called on junior midfielder Zion Wharton. This resulted in a penalty kick opportunity for Yale. The Bulldogs' Diego Zaffanella sent the ball to the back of the net giving Yale the 1-0 lead, that would later win them the match.
Senior goalkeeper Henrik Weiper made five saves on the night, capping off his senior year with 28.
The Bears closed out the full 90 minutes with 13 shots, while Yale recorded 14.
