Men's Hockey Takes 7-2 Home Win Over Stonehill
10/29/2023 6:17:00 PM | Men's Ice Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (1-1-0, 0-1-0 ECAC) struck for seven goals, led by a hat trick from Ryan St. Louis, to take a 7-2 non-conference win over the Stonehill Skyhawks (0-6-0, Independent) Sunday afternoon at Meehan Auditorium.
In addition to St. Louis, six other Bears recorded multiple points, including four assists from Max Scott.
"I didn't think we started with a lot of jump and we looked a little lethargic; it's a young team and I thought we were a little slow getting out of the room to start the game," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "It definitively got better as the game went on and there were some really good things I saw offensively.
"The weekend coming up is a big one with the defending champ Colgate and one of the best teams in the country in Cornell. It's a challenge but it's one we'll be up for and we're looking forward to it."
Stonehill took the early lead with a goal from Cameron Gaudette just 25 seconds after the initial puck drop. Gaudette blasted a quick shot from the point to beat Brown goaltender Lawton Zacher (22 saves).
Alex Pineau recorded his first career goal at 13:55 of the first on Brown's first power play of the night. The defenseman jumped into the play and finished a cross-crease pass from Tyler Kopff to tie the game.
Jordan Tonelli tallied his first goal of the season at 6:39 of the second for Brown's second power play goal of the afternoon. The captain wired a one-timer off a feed from Brett Bliss to beat Stonehill goaltender Dylan Meilun (29 saves).
Stonehill evened the score at 2-2 at 12:17 of the second as Henri Schreifels tallied a power play goal for his first of the season.
Just 22 seconds later, St. Louis beat Meilun with a quick shot off assists from Scott and Ryan Bottrill for the 3-2 lead.
Matt Sutton picked up a loose puck in the final minute of the middle period and found the back of the net for a 4-2 lead through 40 minutes.
In the third, Jackson Munro tallied a short-handed goal 8:59 into the game and St. Louis added his second goal of the game 53 seconds later to push Brown's lead to 6-2.
With 4:26 remaining, St. Louis capped the hat trick with his third of the game off of Scott's fourth assist of the contest.
