ITHACA, N.Y. – As Brittany Raphino stated in this week's Ivy League Insights Podcast, the Brown Women's Soccer program entered the season with a motto – We Want More, We Want Four.
On Saturday afternoon at Cornell, the Bears completed the lofty step, defeating the Big Red 2-1 on Berman Field for their fourth consecutive Ivy League Championship. The win clinches the No. 1 seed as the Bears will host the inaugural Ivy League Tournament at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
There is one word to describe head coach Kia McNeill and the Brown Bears in recent memory. Dynasty.
The win improved Brown's record to 10-1-2 overall and 6-0 in conference play, while Cornell dropped to 4-4-6, 0-4-2 Ivy. It also marked the first time in program history with four consecutive 10+ win seasons.
Brown struck first at the 5:54 mark as Raphino picked up her 11th goal of the season off the rebound. Cornell's goalkeeper punched Kira Maguire's cross and Ava Seelenfreund follow was blocked by a teammate before Raphino tied her career high with the 11 goals.
The reigning three-time Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week tied Debbie Ching (1979-82) for second in program history with 40 career goals and it marked the first time in her sensational career the Randolph, Mass. native scored in five consecutive contests.
MORE NOTES: The assist moved Seelenfreund into a tie for ninth in program history as the senior collected her 60th career point, tying Gretchen Orr (1981-84).
Nearly 10 minutes into the second half, Sheyenne Allen's entry pass to Raphino led to a beautiful pass to Audrey Lam, who lofted a goal over the Cornell goalie for a 2-0 Brown lead.
The Big Red scored for the first time against the Bears since the 10:08 mark in Brown's 3-1 win over Cornell on October 21, 2018.
Senior Clare Gagne improved to 8-1-2 in 2023.
Brown is now 25-0-2 in its last 27 Ivy League contests.
