
Women's basketball shuts down Dartmouth for first Ivy win

HANOVER, N.H. – A lockdown defensive effort to end the game gave Brown (8-7, 1-2 Ivy) a 66-58 win over Dartmouth (2-15, 0-3 Ivy) on Saturday night (Jan. 7).
The Bears were led by 19 points from Kyla Jones, 16 points from Grace Arnolie and 12 points from Charlotte Jewell. Jones finished the night 9-for-19 from the field while Arnolie and Jewell did most of their damage at the free throw line. Jewell led Brown going 9-for-13 from the stripe and Arnolie finished 7-for-8.
Jones once again filled up the statsheet, leading Brown with five assists and five steals, while also finishing second on the team with seven rebounds. Ada Anamekwe led Brown with eight rebounds and four blocks.
The Bears did a good job taking care of the ball committing 14 turnovers while forcing 26 turnovers from the Big Green. Brown turned those turnovers into 27 points.
In a back-and-forth game that featured six ties and six lead changes, Brown's defense came up big in the last ten minutes holding Dartmouth to just three points in the final quarter.
Brown entered the fourth quarter down two but a basket by Arnolie and another from Jones off a steal put the Bears back in front. Anamekwe scored the next three points for the Bears before two free throws by Arnolie gave Brown a 62-55 lead. Dartmouth hit a three with 2:18 left in the game but a jumper by Mackenzie Leahy and free throws from Jewell ended the game.
The Bears built a five-point lead in the first quarter and built the lead to seven with two minutes left in the first half after three points by Anamekwe and an Arnolie layup that came from a steal by Jones. Brown took a 35-28 lead into the half after two free throws from Jewell.
Brown's lead quickly diminished in the third quarter as Dartmouth opened the half on a 17-5 run to take a five-point lead. Brown would tie the game with a three from Jones and two threes by Isabella Mauricio late in the quarter kept the game tied at 53 but a late basket by Dartmouth gave the Big Green the two-point lead entering the final ten minutes.
Dartmouth was led by Mia Curtis who had 20 points and the Big Green held a 20-13 advantage on the offensive glass.

Brown will remain on the road for one more game with a contest at Princeton on Saturday (Jan. 14) at 2 p.m.
