"Obviously just really thrilled for the program, and for the seniors who have been a huge part of rebuilding this program and have really put their heart and soul into it," Elizabeth F. Turner '98 Coaching Chair for Women's Basketball Monique LeBlanc said.
"Really fired up for them to get this type of signature win, and the best thing is that I know they are excited and motivated to continue to play great basketball," LeBlanc added.
Ada Anamekwe had one of her best performances of the season against the Crimson. Anamekwe added a season-high 15 points, including five baskets from the field. She also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
"It really feels like a team win," Anamekwe said. "We fought hard for it, and it feels better when you fight hard for the things you want to achieve."
Grace Arnolie had her eighth 20-point game of the season and 22nd of her career, netting a team-high 21 points for the evening. She shot 40% from the field (6-15), and 43% from behind the arc (3-7). Arnolie also shot a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. She has now scored in double figures in all 19 games she has played this season.
The Bears got on the board first when Grace Arnolie drained a three-pointer just 18 seconds into the contest. Both teams traded baskets through the first five minutes of the opening quarter, with the score tied for the second time at 12-12 around the halfway mark. Charlotte Adams-Lopez knocked down a three to put Brown ahead by one, before Grace Arnolie hit a buzzer-beating three to push the advantage to 18-14 after one.
Brown ended the first quarter shooting 50% (6-12) from the field, and 40% (4-5) from deep.
A three-pointer from Beth Nelson ahead of the second quarter media timeout kept the Bears ahead by five. Brown went on to add seven more points before the break, holding a steady 34-28 lead at the half.
Harvard outscored Brown by one point in the third quarter, the only period in which it held the advantage. The Crimson still fell short, facing a 47-42 setback after 30 minutes of play.
The Crimson came within one point (52-51) at the seven minute mark of the fourth quarter, following a driving layup from Karlee White. Back-to-back buckets from Olivia Young helped the Bears pull away ahead of the under five media timeout.
Harvard came within two points twice more in the final minute, but got into foul trouble, giving the Bears multiple free-throw opportunities. Brown was able to pull away for the last time, securing its 68-62 win over Harvard.
The Bears closed out Saturday night shooting 43% from the field, 44% from beyond the arc, and 75% from the free throw line.
Brown's victory over Harvard was its first since 2015 and its first home win in the series since 2012. The win moves the Bears into a tie for third place in the Ivy League standings.
