PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Grace Arnolie scored a game-high 19 points and Alyssa Moreland dominated the glass with a career-high 19 rebounds to lead Brown (14-7, 6-3 Ivy) to a 58-51 victory over Dartmouth (10-12, 1-8 Ivy) at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Friday night.
Brown utilized a powerful interior presence to overcome a slow start, out-rebounding the Big Green 50-35 and holding a 20-10 advantage in points in the paint. Moreland's 19 boards, including seven on the offensive end, helped the Bears secure 17 second-chance points. Ada Anamekwe added 12 rebounds, with eight offensive boards.
Dartmouth jumped out to an early lead behind its perimeter shooting, connecting on six three-pointers in the first quarter to take a 20-17 lead.
The Bears tightened their defense in the second quarter, holding Dartmouth to just eight points and 27% shooting. Charlotte Climenhage sparked the comeback with a pair of three-pointers, helping Brown reclaim a 33-28 lead by halftime.
Arnolie took over in the second half, finishing the night 9-of-17 from the floor. Her consistent mid-range scoring kept the Big Green at bay whenever they attempted a rally. Moreland added eight points and three blocks to her massive rebounding total, while Beth Nelson contributed eight points, including two three-pointers.
Brown's defensive intensity forced 12 Dartmouth turnovers and held the visitors to 31% shooting.
Cate MacDonald anchored the Dartmouth effort with seven points and 11 rebounds, but the Big Green could not sustain their early hot shooting, going just 3-of-15 from 3-point range over the final three quarters. Zeynep Ozel led the Big Green with 13 points, while Nina Minicozzi added 11 off the bench, all coming from beyond the arc.
