Men's Hockey Closes Non-Conference Schedule at #8 Merrimack

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's hockey closes the 2022-23 non-conference slate with a trip to take on the eighth-ranked Merrimack Warriors (14-5-0, 9-2-0 HEA) Saturday night at Lawler Rink in North Andover, Massachusetts.
Saturday's puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. and fans can stream the game on ESPN+ in the United States and on Stretch Internet internationally.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown looks to close the non-con schedule with a victory to finish the seven non-ECAC games with a 4-3-0 overall record. The Bears also look to rebound from a 3-0 road loss at 15th-ranked UMass on Tuesday (Jan. 3).
- Freshman Ryan Bottrill leads the team with six goals and 12 points through 15 games. Junior Jordan Tonelli and sophomore Jackson Munro are tied for the team-lead in assists (7).
- Between the pipes, sophomore Mathieu Caron has started all 16 games and holds a .923 save percentage and 2.44 goals against average. Caron's save percentage ranks third in the ECAC and 12th in the NCAA.
- As a team, Brown is tied for 26th in the nation with 2.75 goals against per game.
- Brown's power play has nine goals in 51 attempts (17.6%) to rank in the middle of the pack in the NCAA. Bottrill and James Crossman lead the team with two power play goals apiece.
- Merrimack enters the weekend with a 14-5 overall record and 9-2 Hockey East mark and rank eighth in the nation in both national polls and rank sixth in the Pairwise. The Warriors square off against Yale tonight in North Andover.
- Sophomore Matt Copponi leads the team with 10 goals and is second on the team with 18 points. Junior Alex Jefferies leads Merrimack with 18 assists and 24 points.
- In total, seven Warriors have double-digit points this season and as a team, Merrimack ranks 16th in the nation with 3.21 goals per game.
- Hugo Olias and Zachary Borgiel have split the goaltending duties this season. Olias holds a 2.03 goals against average and a .921 save percentage in 11 starts while Borgiel holds a 1.86 goals against and .927 save percentage in eight starts.
- As a team, Merrimack ranks fourth in the NCAA with 2.05 goals against per game.
- On special teams, the Warriors rank 39th in the nation on the power play with 14 goals in 77 attempts (18.2%). Merrimack's penalty kill ranks 19th in the nation with 11 goals against in 63 attempts (82.5%).
- Saturday marks the 15th meeting between Brown and Merrimack in a series dating back to 1975.
- The Bears look to snap a three-game skid against the Warriors, falling last season at Meehan Auditorium.
