Baseball to Close Out Season Against Cornell this Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. β The Brown baseball team will host Cornell this weekend at Murray Stadium to close out the 2022 season. The Bears and Big Red will square off in a doubleheader on Saturday at 11:30 a.m., followed by a single game on Sunday at noon.

Brown will recognize its seven-member senior class of 2022 with a ceremony between games of Saturday's doubleheader. On Sunday, all of Brown's moms will be invited down to the field pregame to throw out the ceremonial first pitches.

SCOUTING BROWN (11-22, 6-12 Ivy)
- Brown is coming off a three-game sweep of Princeton last weekend at home, coming from at least three runs down to win each game.
- It was the first time Brown swept a season series from Princeton since 2010, when the Ivies only played each other twice in a season.
- Sophomore reliever Paxton Meyers was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week after tossing 6.0 innings of relief on 98 pitches (both career-highs) and earning the win.
- Brown's bullpen enters this weekend having not allowing an earned run over its last 29.1 innings.
- In last weekend's three games, junior first baseman Ryan Marra lifted his average over the .300 mark for the season by batting .556 and posting a .667 on-base percentage with seven RBIs, five runs scored, and two home runs, including a walk-off to win game two on Saturday.
- Marra is tied for fourth in the Ivy with nine home runs this season, and leads Brown with 24 RBIs.
- For the season, Meyers leads the Bears with 18 appearances and holds a 3.15 ERA with 38 strikeouts over 34.1 innings.
- Among qualified pitchers, Meyers (3.15 ERA) and Tobey McDonough (3.39 ERA) rank second and third, respectively, in the Ivy in ERA.
- Junior catcher Jacob Burley is leading the league with 13 runners caught stealing.
SCOUTING CORNELL (10-23, 4-14 Ivy)
- Cornell is coming off a 10-8 come-from-behind win at Binghamton on Tuesday evening, snapping a five-game skid.
- As a team, Cornell ranks seventh in the Ivy with a .250 batting average, one spot ahead of Brown, while ranking eighth with an 8.83 team ERA.
- Max Jensen is hitting .342 this season with a team-high 15 doubles, 24 RBIs, and 25 runs scored.
- Sophomore catcher Nathan Waugh is hitting .337 this season with four homers.
- Junior outfielder Sam Kaplan is hitting .333 on the season, but has been on fire against Ivy opponents, hitting .409 with a 1.424 OPS six homers and 16 RBIs.
- Reliever Ryan Porter leads the team with two saves, posting a 3.68 ERA over 14.2 innings.
- Luke Yacinich holds a 6.47 ERA over 12 appearances, 10 starts, while striking out 50 and walking 33 over 64.0 IP.
- Spencer Edwards has 43 strikeouts and 34 walks over 52.1 innings pitched.
