POSTGAME NOTES
- Marra becomes the first Brown player to reach double digit home runs in a season since Pete Greskoff (17) and Ryan Zrenda (11) in 2010. Marra now has a six-game hitting streak and has a hit in 13 of his last 15 games.
- Gottam has now thrown 8.2 scoreless innings of relief over the last two weekends.
- Cornell scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning in game two, the first earned runs allowed by Brown's bullpen in 34.2 innings dating back to Easter Sunday at Yale.
GAME ONE
- Cornell starter Luke Yacinich fired a complete game shutout, allowing just six hits and two walks while striking out six on 111 pitches.
- Cornell took the second inning 1-0 lead on a solo home run by Jason Apostle.
- The Big Red tacked on two more runs in the fifth to take a 3-0 lead off two hits and one walk.
- Gottam came on in relief and got a pair of double plays in the middle innings to end Cornell threats, firing 4.2 innings of relief while allowing just two hits and one walks while striking out three.
- The Bears mounted a rally in the bottom of the ninth, starting with a leadoff single by Reece Rappoli, breaking up a string of 11 batters in a row retired by Cornell pitching. Chris Lang followed with a pinch hit single with one out, but Yacinich got a pop out and strikeout to cap off the complete game shutout.
Β
GAME TWO
- Brown jumped on the board right away in the bottom of the first on a two-run shot by Marra on a 3-2 pitch to right field to take the early 2-0 lead.
- In his first at bat since April 10, Brasher tacked on three more with a big home run to the opposite field in the third inning, launching one over the right center field wall to give Bruno a 5-0 lead.
- Marra added another hit and RBI to his credit with a single through the right side to score Derian Morphew in the fourth to push the lead to 6-0.
- Cornell got on the board in the sixth inning, scoring one run on a hit, walk and RBI groundout.
- Cornell got two more runs on two hits to make it 6-3 in the top of the eighth before Charlie Beilenson came on to get a strikeout to end the inning, then struck out two more in a scoreless ninth for this third save of the season.
Β
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: GRANT ACHILLES
- "It was another great start for Tobey. He probably could have gone another inning but had some high-stress pitches and powered through to get us to that point, so we handed it over to the bullpen and let them do their thing."
- "Ryan Marra's been doing a great job of going in with a plan and sticking to it. When he swings at the pitches he wants to, he really forces the pitcher to adjust to him. That's been making a world of a difference for him at the plate."
- "Brasher was hot before he tweaked his hamstring (on April 10), but he was ready and when he got the chance he certainly delivered. I'm really proud of him."
