
Softball drops opening game of series at Dartmouth, 3-1

HANOVER, N.H. – Brown softball dropped its first game of the series at Dartmouth, falling 3-1 on Saturday (April 9). The Bears offense was shutdown, failing to muster a hit against Dartmouth.
After allowing a home run in the bottom of the first, Brown starter Alexis Guevara retired the next 11 batters. In the loss, Guevara scattered six hits, allowed one earned run and struck out five batters.
Brown got back into the game in the third as Meghan Gormley reached on an error by Dartmouth's third baseman. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, Gormely scored due to another error by the Big Green. Nicole Kim laid down a bunt and the throw was wide of first, allowing Gormley to cross the plate and Kim to move to second.
With two outs in the fifth inning, Guevara allowed a walk and a throwing error kept the inning alive. After an infield single, Billie McFayden, who had the solo home run in the first, singled to bring home two runs, putting Dartmouth up 3-1.
Brown had an opportunity in the seventh as Julia Gubner walked to lead off the inning. Grace Ladd hit a deep drive but it was caught on the warning track for the first out. Dara English was hit by a pitch in the next at bat, putting the tying run on base, but the next two batters struck out to end the game.

Brown will finish up the series at Dartmouth with a doubleheader on Sunday (April 10) beginning at 12:30 p.m.
